That's two months in a row that ABIA has had more passenger traffic than Love Field.

It might be worth it for us to let council know close to when it's time for approval that we support the airport master plan. I was disappointed that the district 1 appointee to the airport commission wasn't at the briefing a couple weeks ago but I'll email Ora and let her know I support it as a D1 resident.

The airport has maintained a growth rate of slightly over 15% Y-O-Y per month for the first seven months of the year. If this is maintained for the remainder of the year, ABIA will be very, very close to 16 million passengers (15.985 million) for the calendar year 2018.

I'm confused why we didn't make this list.....the whole O&D thing is throwing me for a loop. What are your thoughts?

looks like the many cities in the US are experiencing the same type of growth(or better) than Austin.

It is crazy to think by the end of 2018, we will have almost double the total traffic numbers of San Antonio.

They rank all airports (whether hub or not) by how many passengers came from (origin) or ended at (destination) that airport. I.E. they didn’t include connections for hub airports, which is a huge driver of those airports’ total passenger counts, while still including those airports in the list; it’s a list of O&D passengers by airport, not a list of O&D airports by passengers.

ABIA is not one of the 24 largest airports, so it wasn’t discussed.

Guess I'm missing the double here... SA is projected to top 10 million this year in total enplaned. Austin will be at 15ish million.

Yeah, I used our projected 15ish number and SA's 2016 number of 8+. Not a very good way to substantiate an argument to be sure, but still shocks me that we are that far ahead of SA, in general. I still always think of San Antonio as a town far bigger/metropolitan (they used to have a Lord & Taylor store for Pete's Sake) than Austin, clearly that is no longer the case, but I just visualized that way for so long.

I attended high school in Corpus, and visiting San Antonio was a big deal. It really is a cool town, the history is amazing.

From a population perspective, San Antonio is larger than Austin. The 2017 estimated San Antonio MSA is 2.74 million (#24 in USA), Austin’s MSA is 2.12 million (#31).

However, size doesn’t equal bodies in airplane seats.

Whoa! Where in the heck did you get that? SA has ~2.47 million vs. Austin's ~2.12...and closing fast!

However, yes, you are correct. Population does not directly correlate to total passengers.

Almost 16 million... They've already serviced about 9.1 million through seven months. And, ABIA is growing at almost double the rate of SAT.

Interior space finish-out is roughly 50% complete, except for the vendor spaces and the airline club, none of which have begun construction. The current estimate is for the Construction Manager to achieve Substantial Completion of the facility, except for the south boarding gates, in mid-January 2019, with the remaining gates expected to open in April, 2019.

So...asking the obvious question...there’s a possibility it will open in phases?
