Oh you gotta hand it to the Cowboys. Using their practice field as a centerpiece in a mixed use development was pure marketing genius. Houston could take note. Not sure if they could find tenants though. Maybe a Staffing agency? Health and Human Services office? Payday Loan Central?

Anyways, with uptown taking shape, has there been a corresponding growth in sidewalk activity and business openings in the area? I wonder how long until it spills over into some of the surface parking infested west side of downtown?

I visited both Legacy West and The Star tonight. Many other families were checking out the Ford Center next door.

The Star's Omni hotel is noticeably taller than Legacy West's Renaissance hotel.

Also, the Dallas Cowboys World HQ is brilliant, pun intended - the glass and marble lobby is illuminated by a spectacular Leo Villarreal-designed LED art sculpture.

The sculpture, "Volume Frisco," contains more than 19,000 LEDs mounted on suspended mirrored rods.

Villareal is known for his LED installation, "The Bay Lights," on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco.

Very nice. I believe there's also a 21 story apartment tower going between this and the Frost Bank building.

That angle gives Museum Tower a feeling of being a "tower in a park."

Developer eyes new high-rise residences for Dallas' popular West Village
Steve Brown
September 6, 2016

Quote:
One of the first apartment projects built in what is now Uptown is being considered for redevelopment.

The Gables Turtle Creek rental community at Cole and Lemmon avenues was built in 1994 and is across the street from the popular West Village retail complex.
Quote:
Developer Gables Residential wants to start tearing down its 22-year-old apartments to replace part of the complex with taller construction.
Quote:
"Currently the site is entitled for 378 units," she said.
Quote:
Gables is asking for city approval to build a tower of about 20 stories on part of the 7-acre site. The block fronting Blackburn Street would remain low-rise construction.

"It's zoned for residential, and we'd be happy to keep it that way or go mixed-use if that's what the community wants," Slade said. "Phase one of our redevelopment would be along Lemmon, where there is heavier traffic."

Gables has already begun meetings with residents in the area and is talking with potential architects.

Dallas Midtown's 20-acre focal point begins to take shape
Candace Carlisle
September 6, 2016

Quote:
The proposed centerpiece of the Dallas Midtown evolution will be unveiled at a town hall meeting next week.

This 20-acre focal point will tie in the rest of Dallas Midtown and could be a big draw to investors, developers and companies, said Bruce Bradford, president and CEO of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce .
Quote:
MIG, a placemaking firm based in Berkeley, Calif., conducted the three-month study on Dallas Midtown. Bradford declined to disclose the cost of the study, but said, "We got far more bang for the buck than the bucks we paid."

This study takes the proposed 20-acre park to the next level to anchor the Dallas Midtown site, which is a 40-block, 430-acre mixed-use development bounded by the Dallas North Tollway, LBJ Expressway, North Central Expressway and Spring Valley Road in North Dallas.
Quote:
Other developers and investors are also eyeing Dallas Midtown, though Bradford declined to mention the names of would-be stakeholders.

To be built, Bradford said philanthropic dollars would likely need to be raised to develop the park in partnership with an earmarked $36 million in tax increment financing funds designated for public infrastructure. He said Dallas' philanthropic nature could mean there would be enough money for the Dallas Midtown park and the proposed extension of Klyde Warren Park.
Quote:
Beck plans to begin the tear down of Valley View Center by the end of the year. The developer has done some environmental remediation and pre-demolition work in preparation for the demolition.

MIG CEO Daniel Iacofano will unveil conceptual renderings of the new Dallas Midtown park and speak to the community on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a ballroom within the Westin Galleria Dallas hotel in North Dallas.

Construction is kicking off for Uptown tower.

Quote:
The 22-story Harwood No. 10 building is planned at 2850 N. Harwood St., near the entrance to Dallas North Tollway.

The 226,778-square-foot office tower has been in the works for several months.

It will be the 10th phase of the developer's namesake Harwood mixed-use project along McKinnon Street north of downtown Dallas.

A construction start for the building is scheduled for the building Thursday morning with Harwood CEO Gabriel Barbier-Mueller.

Hello, Roman.

The Union is currently several levels below-grade.

Excavation will continue with cement pouring to follow.

I'd love to see more height cross Woodall Rogers. It's only a matter of time, I'm sure. The density is there and is increasing. I'm also looking forward to when downtown expands toward the West End and all of those parking lots are developed (same thing on the East side of downtown).

I don't think the buildings can be any taller than what is being built there due to FAA restrictions.

Is that right? I didn't realize that. What are the limits? I suppose it's different in different sections of Uptown, etc.
