Whitecaps keep 100% of the €20M, too.

Hargreaves never played for Canada internationally, which is why Davies' transfer is so much more important for the Canadian program as a whole.

Indeed. Need a couple more of these guys and we can compete for Gold Cup titles on regular basis I hope. And qualify for the WC most the time.

As much as it sucks to see a super talent like Davies leaving for Europe (I now know how Växjö Lakers fans feel), this is huge for Soccer in Canada. Youth Soccer player can now see a path for a soccer career. Not only with the Whitecaps or another MLS team, but possibly even with a huge club like Bayern Munich.

With those dreams in mind, I think a lot more kids are gonna stick with soccer, and we're going to start to see an influx of talent coming out of Canadian programs. Similar to what the Raptors have done for Southern Ontario.

Let's hope so. But now that you bring up the Raps, we can hope he has success and this is a catalyst to producing some more top end talent. But he'll be far away and not playing in front of Canadians. And that's my concern.

Vince was a big part of what made the Raps cool at the time and got even more kids into the sport. He was doing his highlight reel thing while playing for TO.

If Davies was a perennial all star and MVP candidate during say a 5 year spell in Vancouver then that might have more of an impact than him playing over in Europe where you can't see him on regular TV (unless it was in the EPL).

Hometown boy DeRo played for TFC and was good, but it wasn't for very long. And it was a terrible team. The majority of his 7 all star seasons and his one MVP award were outside of TO. And he won his four championships in SJ and Houston. Also, I didn't see him as being that great of a player. But I saw him as being an impact player. The kind of guy that relies more on instinct than skill. So he wasn't all that flashy. Though I still love "impact" players.

If he does well he'll certainly be of more interest to Canadians than Hargreaves since he'll actually be playing for Canada. Plus he plays a more creative position, which is what Canada needs!

Davies official - https://www.whitecapsfc.com/post/201...lphonso-davies

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have reached a record-breaking transfer agreement with FC Bayern Munich for Homegrown midfielder Alphonso Davies, the club announced today. The move involves a fixed transfer fee and additional compensation that could total more than $22 million US, the most ever received by an MLS club in the league’s 23-year history.

Davies puts on an absolute clinic yesterday. Electrified the crowd and the announcers. And this is what I was talking about earlier when saying that by going away to Europe, the youth in Vancouver don't get to see him up close and personal anymore, which can provide that little extra push towards developing some more pros in that region. Unless he becomes a global star like a Lewandowski at Bayern.

I finally watched The Carter Effect as recommended by another member and you see towards the end the various NBAers recounting how they either played against Vince in a charity game or shook his hand or watched him from close at a game or just watched him on TV and how that put them over the edge into wanting to take it to the next level.

I hope Alphonso is the Vince of Canadian soccer!

On joue contre les méchants samedi soir.

Méchants = "bad guys".

They're playing TFC.

I get Groupon messages for a number of cities, including Toronto.

Anyway, just got an offer from Groupon for discounted TFC tickets.

I was going to go to the game but had to cancel last minute. Missed my favourite player's potential best goal of his career.

It really was.

I was happy to see TFC battle back and take the full three points. I know it's a long shot, but now that everyone is finally healthy, maybe they can run the table and make the post season.

Out of the playoff race, yes.

Deserved for TFC. They've had an awful year all things considered.

MLS and Liga MX have toyed around with the idea of forming a North American super league

It will take a few years for the MLS teams to be competitive. Liga MX has completely dominated the champions league.

Yeah, after the 2022 TV deal renegotiation, with so many more teams and a larger salary cap/TAM, I can see it being feasible. Would be a ton of fun to watch! It will also give us more reasons to relate to and bond with our Mexican brothers.
