Why do it change color / material here? Ruins the fluidness of the West side, and doesn’t match the renders.

Edit - I’m taking about the left side of the circled part.

That's the cladding, it sticks out and runs down with the windows touching the horizontal metal clad

So from bottom to top it goes metal then glass then metal again (the cover of the cooling towers)? How did anyone think that was a good design decision from an aesthetic perspective?

^ I think you guys may be talking about 2 different things. R5Ryder is asking about the apparent change in color in the cladding surrounding the construction elevator tower as it nears the top of the building. I may be wrong about this, but my assumption has been that this is only temporary, and the lighter color will continue up the entire side--including the cooling tower--once the building is finished. Don't forget that they will be removing the construction elevators and then finishing up that whole facade from top to bottom. Otherwise, I agree with you that the change in color would make no sense from a design perspective.

Actually if you look on the page 1 renderings it is dark up top and lighter at the bottom, though it's not a change from one color to the other immediately as it appears to blend from one to the other

* it could just be shadowing for realism I guess, but if you look at the last rendering it seems to be part of the design

Yeah, I think it's just shadowing, at least until you reach the cooling tower. In the video at the top of the Comcast website, it appears that there may be a slightly different shade of cladding on the cooling tower itself, but the dramatic color change that currently exists before you reach the cooling tower--and about which R5Ryder was asking--is clearly not in the renderings in the video:

I believe what you’re seeing is a shift to glass. If I remember correctly there did that to create a 360 degree view at the top of the hotel.

But the shift in color is well before the top of the hotel. And if they did that, why not use glass with exterior tinting that doesn't make the change so obvious? You may be right, but I'm hoping you're not.

That image does show a change in material, but it’s not that dramatic, and it’s much closer to the top than what was actually done.

Nice. Lookin' festive. And the tree accompanies the skyline quite well. It should. After all, that's probably the best place to view it.
