I believe inside the historic Granary Building will be the gym, club and the other amenities if I am not mistaken

So I was curious about something and thought I'd ask here. Hopefully this is an ok place to do so.

I was reading today's Philaphilia post on Naked City today, and it talked about a parking lot on "Lower Level Walnut Street". I'm always fascinated by odditites like this, where an elevated roadway basically creates two versions of a street. My question is, is it really called "Lower Level Walnut Street"? Is that lower street uniquely addressable? Is the lower version of 30th between Market and Chestnut? Or do they exist in some kind of purgatory? How does mail get to any parcel on them? I know that the lower streets are basically all parking lots, but... These are the things I wonder.

The Divine Lorraine as it sits today

http://somethingfortheeyes.com/2011/...orraine-hotel/

While not the tallest building, only sitting at 125 feet, the Divine Lorraine is a legend in Philadelphia. As one of the first highrises in the city, constructed somewhere around 1894 and designed by Willis G. Hale, the building was once an apartment building for the wealthy elite in Philadelphia. Sometime around 1900, the Lorraine was bought and converted into an upscale Hotel by the Metropolitan Hotel Company. Later, the Hotel became the first racially integrated Hotel in Philadelphia.

Today, the building sits abandoned, slowly being destroyed by intruders and the elements.

There may however, be hope for the Divine Lorraine. Philadelphia developer and big time player in the redevelopment on North Broad Street, Eric Blumenfeld, is attempting to seal a $44 million deal to purchase the building and the empty lots behind it and convert the building itself into 126 rental apartments with ground floor restaurants.

Developer Eric Blumenfeld perched atop the Divine Lorraine

"If North Broad Street is all about connecting the dots," he said, "this is the logical next dot."

To the south, he has a clear view of two nearby old factories in the 600 block of North Broad that he has already converted into loft apartments.

To the north, he can see the cranes rising over new projects on the campus of Temple University.

"Think about what is happening on North Broad Street," Blumenfeld said. "This could be transformational. We're only halfway there."

It would be amazing if once and for all the DL could be bought and saved from the wrecking ball. Things sound very hopeful!

This has got to be the number one building in the state BEGGING for renovation, maybe only second in the US after the Detroit Station.

The building is too sweet to sit forever. It's only a matter of time.

Developer Michael Samschick hopes to transform the former Ajax Metal Works, at Frankford and Delaware avenues in Fishtown, into a 3,000-person music venue, a bowling alley, a restaurant and a distillery.

He also intends to turn the nearby dry ice building into a restaurant with live music, said Fishtown Neighbors Association Zoning Committee Chair Matt Karp.

Parking for these proposed business got a mixed review, Karp said. Most of the 337 spaces would be located beneath I-95. “We're not seeing that as a bad use for the area,” Karp said. “It was noted that their parking was a little light, but they knew that.”
