2020 (estimated): Concord Park Boulevard | Condo | 42 Floors

Towers proposed/under application expected to be completed after 2021:

GEC Education Mega Centre | Student Housing, Hotel, Institutional | 50 Floors

Thanks Shift.

Kinda surprised to see that Concord Pacific doesn't have anything else on deck in the near future other than PB. I thought they owned that strip mall property across from infinity?

Theres actually a bunch on the post-2021 list that could be completed around 2020/2021 if they were to get underway by end of this year or next year. Given it takes 3 years to build a tower. The ones that could also finish around 2020/2021 are:

GEC Education Mega Centre | Student Housing, Hotel, Institutional | 50 Floors
University District (Phase 2) | Condo, Office, Retail | 26 + 32 Floors
Hub at King George (Phase B) | Condo, Office, Retail | 12 + 39 Floors
Wynd |Condo | 28 Floors
City Centre 3 | Office | 8 Floors
Tien Sher 108 Ave & King George (Phase 1-2) |Condo, Retail | 6 + 35 Floors
Veterans Village / Whalley Legion | Care Facility, Office | 20 Floors

I'd say those are the most likely to start within the next year or so.

Not aware of Concord owning the lands across from Park Place north of 100 Ave.. that would be nice though.

Nice rendering of the future LRT along the to-be-pedestrianized City Parkway, showing the Surrey Central Station north house expansion, completed Civic Plaza, and new Central Avenue.

Good to hear that more towers are on the way. The skyline today is still so small. I was looking at it when landing on YVR the other week and it sure doesn't look like region's second biggest city. Even New Westminster and Coquitlam look more impressive from the air today, but that is going to change if all these projects happen.

I think Burnaby will always have more impressive skylines, but Burnaby is a special case even nationally.

Yup, Burnaby is the bastion of Vancouver's spillover. Truly unique.

However Surrey, being the 2nd largest city in this area, need to have a proper downtown to help cut down more urban sprawl.

I wish Surrey could take this opportunity push for buildings that don't look like carbon copies from Vancouver/Burnaby/Coquitlam etc. And make this area feel unique. Granted, 3 civic and central city are great but all these other proposals are the same old point towers with a suburban feel especially how they interact with the street.

Is there some hidden law that applies to the cities of the lower mainland that require small floorplate point towers with townhouse podiums all clad in spandrel and painted concrete?

Cost and return on investment. This way they can squish as many units into each tower as possible, all tiny suites. Also makes fuller use of the expensive real estate costs, since they can put a square tower on basically any plot of land.

That doesn't make much sense. They'd get a larger return if they did away with two storey podiums and built larger towers. you drive down to Seattle and you notice the buildings are different. Just makes me wonder why all the cities in the lower mainland seem to want to all approve the same kind of buildings

lol i agree with you - it would be nice to see something different then the typical tower layout.

To be honest, we are lucky we don't get the slab buildings that are much more common in Ontario. Slab buildings (rectangular) are actually much more efficient/cheap to build, but they are much more oppressive/view blocking than the point towers that we get here.

Not completely the case. The projects that meet the street well outnumber those that don't.

Hub at King George:

University District:

Prime on the Plaza:

West Village 6:

Anthem is also looking promising:

Also the whole Civic Plaza to Central City Plaza extension and surrounding buildings will also be be quite unique.

These are all just the start.

Any ideas when work on the north end of Surrey Central Skytrain station will start? Also, any movement on the new ice rinks by Scott Road?
