Nope. The developer has been mum about the tower[s] but it's not dead.

It's still alive.

I don't know how better to answer your question. Ash still wants to build a hotel tower and either a residential tower or add residential to the hotel tower.

It's a very tricky situation that will take time.

They also appear to be comfortable with long periods of silence. The Rivercenter rehab has been talked about for years with very few confirmations or official releases. We're only now seeing actual movement. So it wouldn't surprise me if they're quiet for a year and then announce it's still happening.

It's more important to have it done right than have it done fast.

Plus can you imagine a crane for Rivercenter, a crane for Frost, a crane for CPS Energy, and maybe one at Hemisfair, all up at the same time ...

They have been working on the interior of the site for almost a year now.

The suite numbers were approved by DSD almost a year ago:

Street Level:

Second Level:

Third Level:

River Level:

The original announcement was retail opening in 2014 and restaurants in early 2015. I have not heard any update on that.

Whoa, I didn't realize it had been almost a year. Time flies.

My original point still stands though. They bought the mall in 2005 with intentions of repositioning it. They bought the Joske's building in 2008, but didn't start construction til late 2013. They released signage renderings in 2012, but didn't confirm H&M as a tenant until a few weeks ago.

Rivercenter's redevelopment has been in process as long as Pearl has been under construction. They are ok with going slow.

Does anyone know what is being planned for the 4th floor of the Joske building?
The Development Services info only has data for the basement to the 3rd floor.

When I was walking to lunch today I noticed that the roof has been removed and the 4th floor no longer exists. It is difficult to tell if it is the whole 4th floor or just part (or other floors), but it is definitely just a facade in the images below.

Reminds me of how the Neisner (Towneplace Suites) used to look before they added to the top.

This must be why the roof has been taken off of the Joske building and why most of the 4th floor has been gutted and removed.

Looking at aerial imagery from April, May, and June it looks like the removal of the roof started some time in April.

Has anyone seen any renderings or heard any additional news on possible residential on top of the Joske building?

***It turns out that I missed or forgot about some of the above info, which is why I was so surprised by the fourth floor being gutted and the roof gone.

Pics of Joske's Building from TOA

Taken Friday:

Don't know if they've replaced part of the ceiling, or those areas were never removed. Maybe it's being done in sections.

Still hoping for the tower, and maybe the ceiling removal was to beef up support for one.

Those areas to the North were never removed. Part of that is the movie theater and the rest is part of the redevelopment that is planned to open in Spring 2015; with H&M, Johnny Rockets, etc.

The rest is redevelopment. New 75' piers are being put in that will support the new structure as well as a possible future addition; upwards that is.

basically, we don't know for for sure. There are hints something is planned but it may not end up being this tower.

The news said itll be open as a mall in the next year & the tower will come in a couple years afterward if all goes well. That's why they're building extra support so something can be built on top of it in the future.

Although San Antonio already has a lot of downtown hotels, there aren't very many "BIG" ones. And lately there has been a push to build more convention size/type hotels in cities. Granted San Antonio already effectively has two of them, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one gets built as a third one. Austin is in the running for a third one, and Houston has 2 major hotels downtown that cater to conventions with at least 4 or 5 more. It's not unreasonable to think San Antonio will get this.

I think they should build a modern W hotel somewhere to add to the skyline.

We have plans for one, it's proposed for Travis and St. Mary's. It's just definitely not approved and still up in the air. (everything seems to be up in the air with this city)

Does anyone know what happened to that rendering?
