Now let's hope Related keeps the excitement and momentum going by unveiling their other major proposal: the former Spire site

Love that interior. Right out of Architectural Digest.

A fitting store for a fitting company.

If we get Amazon, knock on wood, Related might need to go for the full 2,000 feet to feed the increased demand!

Do you mean Architectural Record? Architectural Digest is the one that shows off old-money's pads of questionable taste, much of which looks like Trumpolini's gilded penthouse, at least that's how I remember it.

I'm not an expert, but I suspect corinthian columns (rather than doric) are gaudy overkill when they're so stubby, and having them in pairs is just ridiculous here. Also, that couch looks like something you'd buy in a dilapidated shop along Grand near Pulaski or somewhere.

-----

Photogs - The midrise opposite Margie's Candies now has its cores erected pretty high, probably about 3 of them, and currently they are by themselves like free-standing towers. Interestingly, all their openings for each level are framed in wood and for some reason the upper corners of every single opening have triangular pieces of wood that make them all look like church windows or something. You'd almost think they were staging a burned down church for filming a movie or something, though presumably they're just part of the concrete process.

I'll admit, it turned out great. The huge glass panels and general openness are amazing. In fact, the area now seems more bright and open with the building than before.

I was just wondering is the Apple store the 6th building by a Pritzker Prize laureate in downtown Chicago?

Renzo Piano - Art Institute Modern Wing
Frank Gehry - Pritzker Pavillion
Kevin Roche - Leo Burnett Building
Kenzo Tange - AMA building
Philip Johnson - US Bank Building
Norman Foster - Apple Store

If you're only counting downtown, I think that's correct. There are a few out in the neighborhoods as well - Koolhaas' student center at IIT, Ando's house in Lakeview, etc.

Also some out in the suburbs, like Gordon Bunshaft's work at Great Lakes.

Though I haven't seen it in person "through my eyes" yet, the Apple store looks like a success. I think Lord Foster made some good design choices and the building doesn't "scream tacky" at all. Looking forward to seeing it up close when I return from the desert.

The Shell Gas Station at Division & Damen got a demolition permit yesterday. Owners are the same that did the 11 story high rise at 1611 W Division. Could we see another midrise/high rise here?

Looks really slick. Too bad the plaid Equitable plaza does little to compliment it, or compliment anything.

Hmmm interesting. Do you happen to know the underlying zoning?

The laptop roof and the painting over the limestone walling below is tacky to me.
