Smile CLEVELAND - Springing along

We had a particularly brutal winter (and spring seems to be taking its good old time getting here temperature-wise), but I tried to get out when it wasn't so cold. These are mostly at lunch time, so there are quite a few shots of downtown around East 9th and Euclid where there's a lot of redevelopment happening. It was about 30F on St. Patrick's Day so I was only out for a little bit and didn't get as many shots of the 300,000+ attendees as I'd like. Ah well, here are the pics:

The next few shots are an area in between the Ohio City and Detroit-Shoreway neighborhoods - it's a handful of redeveloped buildings including a former fire station and a transformer station (now part of the Cleveland Museum of Art's community outreach programming). They're trying to brand the area 'Hingetown' which I'm not so sure about:

Pardon the poorly stitched panorama - this is Phase II of Flats East Bank, an eight-story mixed-use building:

Very nice walk and pictures of Cleveland! Thanks for sharing, MayDay.

You enjoyed a very pleasant day despite of the low temperature. Cleveland has a lot of charm. Great job!

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Superb! Are there a lot of residential conversions in downtown Cleveland?

I love seeing all the adaptive reuse along Euclid. That street will be a gem!

The Grand Arcade Building still seems so under-utilized on the main and lower (retail) levels. I'm hoping with more people living downtown, someone will come up with an idea to injest more life into this irreplacable landmark.

Not meant as a slight to the newer structures, but I really do love those older rascals downtown. And I'll echo MplsTodd's remark about the all the reuse work there. Bravo Cleveland. Thanks for the pics MayDay.

This building is so awesome! Creates such a great streetwall, and really dense block. Looks like Chicago.

This has a nice Parisian density going on here. I like this a lot.

My favorite Cleveland building. What is it called, the Terminal Tower? I think. Anyway, I have a thing for these Depression era skyscrapers. They are absolutely the best. This is one of the classic midwest spire skyscrapers, and man oh man does this photo capture it beautifully!

What's this building? I wanna see it from a different angle, but from this angle it is really cool looking.

Awesome! Glad to see new construction downtown. We're finally getting some new construction downtown too, and man it is so exciting! I'm sure you feel it too. There is just nothing better than a brand new building going up in the glory land of our downtowns. Of course 8 stories probably isn't the most exciting project or anything, but it's mixed use man. Sounds great!

Yea Centropolis, that's a good way of saying it. Cleveland has a grand downtown. Cleveland is so grand in an old school way. I love how it has so few new buildings downtown. Almost all of the buildings are old, and the new skyscrapers were at least built to look old. Somehow Cleveland has retained its majestic skyline after all this time. I mean, it isn't necessarily a good thing economically or anything. The city definitely needs new construction. Some new towers would be very good for it, even if it took away from the dominance of classic buildings. Man it's potential is unreal though. With a whole generation of new buildings and people moving back to the city, it could be epic. I mean a river and the lake? Both? Midwest yet close to the north east?

You can tell where I'm from, because I got most excited over the Cadillac's in the parade. lol

I never get tired of seeing Cleveland, Mayday. They don't make cities like this, anymore.

those midwestern buildings are so enormous. in new york, a block of this age and style

would have six or seven buildings.

Great set. Excellent bones, with a decent amount of meat. Cleveland looks like it is on the upswing.

Cleveland looks nice, the historic and new architecture and the streetlife.
