I don't really agree with that list. Too many skyscrapers, not enough prominent/iconic buildings.

The Guggenheim museum, the San Remo / Eldorado apartments, the Ansonia, the Sherry Netherland and the New Yorker hotel... should be in that list.

No, I agree with you. I really meant this thread to only be for skyscrapers. I should have clarified that better in the title, but oh well.

this is a list of buildings that identify chicago... not to be confused with a list of the greatest buildings in chicago. that is, this list is not indicative of any amount of quality, rather it is reflective only of popularity or symbolic status.

1. sears and john hancock.

*mine

2. tribune and wrigley. the famous duo...

3. the chicago theater

4. the marina city twins

*mine

*public domain

5. that black and white edifice that is everything 80's. smurfit-stone building

6. wrigley field

*public domain

7. water tower

8. the trio of 333 n michigan, 360 n michigan, mather tower

*photo, http://www.mychicagotravelguide.com/...ts/1/ig?page=7

*mine

9. 35 e wacker

*mine

10. the trio of AON, 1pru, and 2pru

i can't think of anything else that is truly representative of the city. that is, instantly recognized as chicago by anyone around the world. sure, there are LOTS of other well-known, popular, great, etc buildings in chicago... but in my opinion, these are what i see as symbolic and instantly identify chicago.
