These eyesores must go ASAP. It's amazing that there will be a $130m penthouse next to this garbage.

Yes, it does. Perhaps, because the excavation for this tower is more difficult. Concrete walls and steel support beams had to be constructed first before the excavation could start so the neighboring structures will not collapse.

Thread title should be updated from Demo to U/C.

It would also be great if somebody could go and grab a few shots of the site.

^ Check my photo above. I was at the site today and it looks exactly the same. Most of the work is underground and progress is not visible for now.

Not much has changed which is visible from the street.

As per ACRIS, one entity, 33-39 E 60th St., LLC, obtained title to all four of the little junks to the east. Hopefully, they will be redeveloped soon.

Also, the new owner is trying to evict the tenants:

JR - dude - love your bluster . . appreciate the Exuberance . .
But I'll say this - that measly 4-story ugly "crap" you wanna obliterate . .
gives this one-horse town a ton of gnarly texture and warm charm . .
and I think it's the view of building-backs you're objecting to here.

To be fair . . there are nasty mistakes aplenty I'd like to pulverize myself . .
I'd strategically cull a lot of banal MID-size pig-vomit - new & old - in the biz districts . .
cheap faceless . . view-blocking . . 25-50 story practical-bulk soulless real-estate . .
(enough adjectives for ya ?) . . I'd keep most of it - of course - for density purposes . .
Definitely Kill 1 or 2 vile Water St. towers though . . but don't get me started . .

the City's magic mystique is in the gutsy Mix . . lurking in the cracks in the sidewalk . .
when a strange Light cleanses every dirty morsel . .
Gritty small-fry imperfections . . magnify the supposed "lofty gems" (if only) . .
520 Park totally Qualifies ! . .
Don't ya just love the hodge-podginess of this Big "ready to rumble" City ? . .
From your posts . . obviously you do . . It's a scrappy mess and we love it ! . .
I'll have the breast of squab with rhubarb compote . . Keep it weird.

Frankly speaking, only one of those rowhouses has it's ornamentation left. The rest have been stripped of any asthetic value.

Correct. They all were once nice , but all but one has been destroyed. They're all owned by the same entity, and, clearly, they will be redeveloped at some point. The adjacent 1960s office tower also will come down at some point. There's obviously A LOT of SF to build a VERY tall resi tower there. I think that this site is just outside the UES Historic District.

about ILNY's post #203 (above) . . thanks by the way . .
OK . . OK . . OK . . - . . OK . . OK . . OK . . well that's what it says . .
520 Park's basement . . looks about the size of a big bath tub . .
perhaps pool-size . . very small footprint I guess . . .

Very elegant tower, even with that cantilever.

So good that it has the right to say "the tower".

As much as I like 99 Church, this will probably exceed it. Already looking like a gem that needs to be here and based on its design and materials, one that was meant to grace the skyline.
