It was more along the lines of Gatineau being a better place to live and build a life than a truly pretty place (although there are a number of reasonably nice built-up areas and the natural setting is quite attractive).

Not at all. In Markham it is common for "anglos" to comment that the best way to make a (member of a prominent ethnicity) blind is to put a windshield in front of his or her face! Like I said,

Edit: Oops, I see that I copied the wrong video for Markham. This was the one I intended:

I'd say the closest I can find would be this.

Umm... yeah I know Nova Scotia and Halifax. I have pretty strong family and personal ties there.

There is a lot of artistic licence on here - it's not meant to be an air-tight exercise.

Now that I've resorted to Eurovision tunes, it strikes me that this captures nicely the "lunch bucket to quantum computing and nanotechnology" renaissance that is taking hold in K-W:

I realise that but somehow I expected after living here for the majority of my life I'd at least have some idea what the connection was. But I suppose it's possible for two people to spend time in the same place and have totally different experiences.

I've often wondered why ALL of the Canadians who pay attention to Eurovision have congregated on this forum for some reason...

Hey now, lots of people pay attention to it! It's even been streamed at bars here, and it's broadcast in Australia on regular TV.

I suspect it has to do with a profound appreciation of the intersection of fabulous and kitsch!

I was so disappointed that CBC Radio didn't do their spoof of announcing the Eurovision winner and then playing a tune that won in a different year. That always made me chuckle, as did their annual apology for the mix-up.

It was broadcast on the international francophone network TV5 here for many years.
