Yes there are!

The 100 Avenue widening project from 140 Street to 148 Street through Green Timbers Park will feature one way separated cycle tracks and some of the intersections will be protected intersections.

http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/21331.aspx

The Bridgeview Drive widening project from King George to Hwy 17 will feature one way separated cycle tracks.

http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/20906.aspx

There already are separated cycle tracks on 105 A Avenue in Whalley completed in 2016.

There are separated bike lanes planned for all the streets of the city centre according to the city centre plan

http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/1343.aspx

Likely one way cycle tracks along the L Line LRT route. Multi-use path along Fraser Highway.

PriceTags astory on the west Burrard Bridge sidewalk.

A few nice pics of the pedestrian diversion outside the balustrade to accommodate the new lanes.

https://pricetags.wordpress.com/2017...dge-west-side/

Note how the suicide fence drops right to grade outside the balustrade.
Never noticed the recesses on the Jersey barrier facing the bike lane (to mimic the balustrade) - probably because I haven't jogged over the bridge yet.
The side facing the cars doesn't have the recesses.

Pacific is going to be a total sh!tshow on the first warm sunny weekend. It was bad enough on a sunny weekend this month, traffic was backed up for blocks coming from Denman and Stanley Park.

Why are the crosswalk pattern markings so boring? Even white blocked markings across the intersection like in NYC would be more interesting (only slightly though). More paint = more money so it makes sense to keep things simple but I wish streetscape improvements on major streets with high pedestrian traffic would extend to the markings.

Tofino's crosswalks are a lot more artistic and interesting. I would love it if some cities in the Lower Mainland started doing this, even if it was along a little stretch (like say Commercial Drive could have a few blocks of interesting crosswalks).

Taking from the monthly newsletter, I assume the reason the pond has been drained is because that is where the new fountain will be installed. I just hope they keep the little pier, and that the water fowl habitat isn't too badly disrupted.

I hope the cherry trees taken down are replaced with cherry trees again (on not eastern maples or something else as boring).

Cherry trees have organically become a big part of Vancouver's identity over the last 100 years, and I hate seeing that currently being thrown to the side.

Cherry trees look good for about 3 weeks a year. Then when the flowers go brown and fall off they create a slippery gross mess.

They are pretty ugly the rest of the time. I'm not a huge fan.

The pedals fall and then are washed away by rain, or proper maintenance of the streetscape, within a few weeks. No different from any other deciduous tree, and for the rest of the year you have what appears to be a quite normal tree.

Vancouver, like Washington D.C., has taken on Cherry Blossoms as part of the city's identity, a reduction and removal of the trees would be a great loss to what can be a very dreary spring season here. I'd take some beautiful flowering trees requiring a little extra streetscape maintenance over your typical deciduous.

The good news is while the CoV seems to have taken on a negative view of the trees, Burnaby at the very least seems to favour the trees.

Many residential neighbourhoods in the city which have not had curbs or sidewalks in the past are, alongside the addition of sidewalks, having young Cherry Blossoms planted. On my grandmother's street two distinct species were planted, on the north side a pink flowering tree that opens in early spring, and on the south side, a white flowering species that typically opens in late spring.

The issue really here is poor maintenance of streetscapes in Vancouver, from public garbage collection, to snow and ice removal, to simply having some crews with leaf blowers clear the seawall in the spring and fall. Either demand the city does it, or impress upon the community to take some responsibility for their environment.

10th Ave Corridor - Health Precinct Update

http://vancouver.ca/streets-transpor...t-updates.aspx

Quote:
November 2016 – March 2017: Refine Designs with Health Precinct Partners

We undertook a join review of the recommended corridor design for the Health Precinct (Oak St to Cambie St) with Vancouver Coastal Health, BC Cancer Agency, and Provincial Health Services Authority.

The purpose of the joint review was to find ways to better meet the needs of emergency services, patients, and visitors to the Health Precinct. The collaborative process resulted in recommended refinements to the design for 10th Ave between Oak St and Ash St.

The refined design responds to concerns we heard about:
  • Emergency vehicle access between facilities
  • Patient access and vehicle circulation to health services
  • Parking and passenger loading close to key facilities for people who need it
We anticipate presenting the refined design for the 10th Ave Health Precinct to City Council in mid-May.
Good to see this moving forward. That stretch always felt like a nightmare for cyclists and drivers alike. Though I supposed if one's doored the ER is right there.

I beg to differ. The cure is far worse than the disease.

For those who are interested, tomorrow (May 7th) at 10 am COV staff will be holding a Jane Walk to provide information on the proposed changes to 10th avenue bike lane between Oak and Cambie.

10th Avenue info from Jane Walk

Here's some of the new (to me at least) info that I picked up on the walk.

10th Ave, east of Ash, is planned to be one-way west bound. The one-way portion originally ended further west, but consultations pushed the terminus further east. Also, the road closure planned for the portion of Heather between 10th and the alleyway has been delayed for the foreseeable future.
There will also be improvements, namely in the standardization of wayfinding signage in the area.

The city will also be trying out some new features to better protect pedestrians at the Arthritis and Eye Care clinics. Examples are using yield triangles and rumble strips to better warn cyclists and those that are slower moving and/or hard of sight.

Lastly, there still hasn't been a definite name for this section of the bikeway, so the working name "Health Precinct" is still being used.
The plan will be going to council on May 16th.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear things are progressing, and that council will make a decision soon.

That's unfortunate that the mini-park at Heather and 10th is being delayed - I wonder why. I was looking forward to more of those half block ped/bike zones (like the one at Davie/Bute).

It essentially came down to two factors. Firstly, the stakeholders in the area are quite nervous about how the project will impact existing services. So, in a gesture of good will, the city held off with the road closure.

The reason was a concern about the impact the potential redevelopment of a couple sites in the area will have. Some of these projects may be common knowledge already, but I'll post about that in the appropriate thread shortly.

I visited the open house held by the city of NW for plans to connect Sapperton to downtown along the waterfront. City Weblink
I took some pictures of some of the boards to share.
