Holy shit thats a fucking terrible idea! Someone should contact BP and tell them that this will create a major right-hook intersection of death for cyclists coming into downtown.

No, the westside couplet would start at NW 2nd and Couch. But why are you talking about that here? This project is at NE 3rd and Couch.

I saw they had started the other day and was wondering which building it was for. It's exciting to see all the work being done in this area and imagine how different it will feel in the next couple years!

Oh I know, I am really expecting that area if Inner East Burnside turning into its own urban district with its own distinct skyline.

Although this has actually been under construction since December, it looks like they're having a ceremonial groundbreaking next week.

Construction set for Burnside Bridgehead's latest building

Jon Bell
Staff Reporter-
Portland Business Journal

More construction activity will bubble up at the Burnside Bridgehead project next week when construction begins on Block 75.

The mixed-use building at the corner of Northeast Davis Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., is a project of Beam Development, Urban Development + Partners and Works Partnership Architecture. It will include 75 market rate residential units, 32,000 square feet of creative office and workspace and nearly 10,000 square feet for street-level restaurants and retail.

It will feature 42 underground parking spaces, but its location along streetcar and bus lines helped qualify it for Metro's Transit Oriented Development program. That program provides financial incentives designed to enhance the economic feasibility of higher density mixed-use projects served by mass transit.
...continues at the Portland Business Journal.

I recently was talking to a friend who works in construction, and he mentioned getting a contract on block 75 at work. I assumed he had the block number wrong, but apparently not.

Saw it on my way home today, now we got two cranes up there. I can't wait to see construction beginning where the used car lot use to be right there too. That whole area is gonna be so cool once everything is done.

I'm eager to see the effect these buildings will have as they rise. People will be talking about them once there's more vertical impact. I have high hopes for a revival on the east side of a secondary downtown.

I was trying to get both, and wasn't sure where to put them.

I got a new phone a few months ago that does some fun panoramic stuff. I also thought I'd linked to those panoramas.

If anyone wants to see the site in panoramic view (and other random pictures from around Portland) my Flickr is here.
