Once the cranes have been installed, I'm guessing the perimeter columns will be placed, and then the central core will rise. All in that order.

I'm betting this is the same process that is occurring for 2WTC at the moment.

Its actually following a very different series of events. Tower 3 is progressing similar to that of tower 4, that is pouring the basement levels first, without steel columns at all in basement construction. Tower 2 is looking like the construction of 1 WTC, in that the basement slab still has not been poured yet, and steel has already been erected.

You are right though a crane should arrive soon.

The tower 3 site looks very "orderly" compared to everything else. But we know the entire redevelopment is very precise.

It could depend on who is working on tower 3 too. It's possible each team has a little bit different style of construction and requirments for site upkeep.

I was thinking the same thing. It kind of looks like an animation of the construction with this orderliness.

Yeah! I commented on that a few pages back, how incredibly neat-looking the tower 3 site is compared to all the others. Remember that SNL sketch from years ago, where Phil Hartman played the "Anal Retentive Fisherman"? It's like tower 3 is supervised by the "Anal Retentive Site Foreman". Looking at it, it's as though he walks around after every shift, straightening up all the rebar piles.

Don't get me wrong, it's all good, though, whatever works!

That's because the tower 3 is being built like tower 4, with the concrete base then the steel beams reaching up to the office floors.

It's the one I'll be most excited to see above street level, so whatever it takes...

The only thing I don't like about the 3WTC is the "X" shaped support beams that show up on the exterior of the tower. It doesn't match with the other WTC towers's facade style.

^ Yeah, but I think variety in the architectural styles of the buildings was the goal.

Yeah, we don't want the towers to look too similar.

"Too similar"??

The towers got different heights, different amounts of office space, different retail, different styles (like Tower 2's slanted top), and most importantly, different geometric shape of the tower!

And you call them "similar"?? They're probably the most unique office tower complexes in the world!!!

The World Financial Center is what I call "similar". All 4 buildings look the same in terms of style, color, design, and roof style.

There's a reason why I like the current New WTC plan more than the original:

Yeah, but at least the dimensions of the WFC buildings' roofs is what sets them apart from each other. With their relatively short height (compared to lower manhattan's tallest buildings), those differences, I think, are FAR more noticeable than the old New WTC plan.

Looks like the official numbering of floors changed for this one as well...
http://www.wtc.com/about/office-tower-3

Quote:
3 World Trade Center at 175 Greenwich Street will be the third-tallest building on the World Trade Center (WTC) site. Designed by Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the tower will be situated at the center of the various buildings around the memorial.

The 80-story tower will rise 1,170 ft feet above street level

The height given for this one is usually the parapet height, but I don't know the overall numbers, so I'll leave the height as is.
Silverstein's timeframe for this one...

Quote:
Foundation Work Begins.................. July 2010
Foundation Reaches Grade.............. December 2011
Steel Tops Out............................. Winter 2013
Curtainwall Enclosure..................... Summer 2014

I said "similar" not "identical". There's a difference.
