Perhaps, but the Shard doesn't have the presence on the Manhattan skyline and that's what this tower has.

Beautiful building. But the failure to extend the facade to mask the electrical equipment/HVAC up top really bothers me. Whatever additional millions of dollars to do that would have been worth it. I know, I know, I'm not the developer or financier...oh, well. Still looks great when viewed from the right angles.

I like this tower.
I love the location.
I hope developers keep building between Downtown and Midtown like this.

This building is freaking gorgeous. I wonder if downtown and midtown Manhattan will be connected by continuous skyscrapers one day.

You noticed that too!
We are witnessing the convergence of the two skylines into one.
Someday in the future, we will have a complete line of continuous skyscrapers.
With Brooklyn, LIC, Jersey City, etc. contributing, the added density will continue to further grow the city.

This building's crown is an absolute disgrace. Granted, from the west it looks gorgeous. But from the south and east it's a horrible job. Whoever is responsible for the clusterf* up there should be shouted at, to say the least. The renderings showed an elegantly slanted (and covered) roof. But now there are a number of things sticking out like what appears to be the elevator shaft, antennae, pipes and other equipment is in plain sight and disfigures the building's curb appeal. And it is a disgrace to the skyline of midtown Manhattan.

Are we sure all the mechanicals and other shit up there are going to show at even from those angles once this is compelte? It's looking to me like they may be extending the facade high enough to block them.

I believe the top is finished because the red warning lights are installed (and working) along the (finished) sloping edge of roof line on the east side.

Ugh. Yes, that shit sticking out the top is, indeed, criminal. And looks like it's here to stay. I would love to know how many more millions it would have cost to extend the crown to cover it...

The up-side to that is only a certain segment of skyline viewers will have the misfortune of looking at the uncovered mech stuff.

It couldn't have set them back much more if they did something to hide it.

One of the new white towers in DTB has this black clump of hot-mess on top that ought to have been covered. Why no fix there?

It's just as bad as those hideous sore-thumb cleaning cranes that detract from some of our finest examples of contemporary skyscraper design.

I wish that stuff at the top was hidden better and that this tower was 400 feet taller.

Yes.

The street you see in the photo pointing towards the East is Gansevoort Street. If the photo panned down, you'd see the high line.

Such a nice tower, until the mechanicals show. I swear I hope they cover it, just makes it look incomplete.
