I like 65 E. Goethe. Of course, HUGE amounts of money spent on that. Limestone exterior (not precast) mahogany window frames, handwrought iron work detailing, zinc roof. Eight floors and 19 units. I think the smallest is around 3000 square feet. Nicely scaled for the Gold Coast neighborhood.

There are many levels to beige hell. LaGrange does not define the bottom. That distinction belongs to Lowenberg. LaGrange occupies the next level up, keepin' it klassy.

^^^ While I agree that is a premium building, and maybe even a handsome building, there are still a lot of flaws in the detailing. Especially along the top floor mansard roof area, there are just a lot of proportions that just don't look right. Also, I HATE the fact that one side has balconies and the other side does not.

No, the bottom belongs to Auntonvich.

This is the way I'll be doing my construction photos in the future. I'm about to upgrade to a more expensive DSLR, but I just can't carry it around on my bike like I do with my current DSLR. I think the iphone 4s produces just as good imagery outdoors. I anticipate upcoming cell phones will have full manual modes.

Yep! Well it's actually metal, but practically the same look. The same stuff used on utility sheds is now on the Mag. Mile!!

Despite the fact of what they are using IS commonly used as the outer skin of the building, I'm still going to wait on this one.

If they are required to match the historical appearance of the facade and the mansard counts as facade, they can't be doing what they have here. In other words, the metal they are putting up here may be the underside of the roof.

The original building had a dark greenish gray color that was speckled with highlights. It wasn't linear like we see here. It may have been slate, but I'm not sure.

This building actually looks good in Hayward's pictures. It's no worse than the 80s crap in the neighborhood.

Haha, glad I was able to put lipstick on a pig. Seeing it again today, the metal on the roof is actually the underside of the deck. A roof made of another material will be placed on top.

Yes, it could be quite a bit worse (Grand Plaza?), but that doesn't make it remotely acceptable as it is still banal piece of shit.
