I looked at the latest images posted in this thread. I claim no expertise in design/build. But are you 100% sure those are only "structural blocks" and not the final finish? I see no sign of "brownstones" in the Brownstones of Augusta.

I think its a little too early to judge seeing as zero external finishing has been done

Seeing as how they don't stick out past the wood, either the top is going to be exposed plywood or they've yet to put the outer casing on.

I know that!

I was referring to those ugly gray blocks at grade.

That's what I was referring to as well. The wood and the gray blocks line up. If the gray blocks were the exterior cladding they'd stick out past the wood.

The main floor of the building has to be built out of structural cinderblocks as per Ontario Building Code (for fire reasons; there are also structural cinderblock barriers between all of the units on all three floors)

Literally this is a half finished building with no exterior cladding on whatsoever. Wait a few months and then pass judgement. So far this dev looks good.

Thanks for the info! I always like to learn. No judgement being passed on my part.

Now if we could just get a similar project built on the vacant lot, south side of King at Wellington, beside the former antiques store. That lot screams "build on me!"

That lot screams for a tower with ground level retail to fit in with the rest of the streetwall. Low density townhouses like this there would be the worst.

Something...anything.... would be better than this blight on the streetscape.

I disagree. That's one of the most prime empty lots downtown, especially with the LRT coming. Just building shit for the sake of filling up land is a terrible way to rebuild a city.

They've only started the cladding in small spots, but it's clear that these townhomes will be of pretty high quality compared to other small developments we've seen.

Wow, that looks really good. It's a lot better than the rendering.

In other news, these are looking hilariously average.

Not really a big surprise. None of the brownstones that have been built downtown have really wow'd me that much. Even the Beasley Towns ended up pretty meh.
