Sorry for the poor quality, I was out for a run and was caught by surprise. Though I would still share with everyone though!
That is pretty damn sexy. If this is the amount of light coming from that Crown, it will definitely be one of the most brilliant building tops in the city. You'd be able to see that for miles in all directions. I just hope they get this spire up to that level as well.

I think they're missing Metropolis, can't tell.
Metropolis is there but it seems they are missing the third tallest tower of Metropolis.

No it's there. It's blocking the majority of TCW.

The lighting of WG is spectacular. I can't wait to see it change colors.

For someone who cares nothing for fashion, why is this a big deal?

Lim won the CFDA award back in 2007, so he's one of the designers that Anna Wintour backs. Other than food, DTLA doesn't attract hyped retailers, definitely not on Lim's level. He's not Louis Vuitton level, but he's a new-ish designer that's Vogue approved. He might be the stamp of approval for similar retailers looking at that area.

Could it be that section of missing led lighting in the upper-right of the sail is for the hotel logo?

Re WG lighting, sitting in the rooftop lounge should be interesting with those bright led lights changing constantly above you.

Third, let us not forget APC and Acne. 3.1 Philip Lim is a good designer, a little underappreciated but a move to showing during Paris Fashion Week will help out with that. Philip Lim also grew up in LA, so it's nice that an LA local is giving back to the city. Interesting he didn't choose Broadway, but his store in NY is a few blocks from me in NoHo, which is also a little out of the way from the main SoHo shopping drag.

The most important thing about this to me is that he is moving his boutique from the WeHo / Melrose area to downtown, showing that he is valuing the bourgening downtown retail market OVER already matured Westside retail markets. This is good!

^Wow, that has got to be getting ready to open up soon. It looks like the public square in the middle has the potential to be a really nice space if executed correctly.

Yep, looks great. A road diet on those adjacent roads seems necessary, tho

lol it's hard to find a street in LA where this isn't true

Our wide roads are, IMO, possibly our biggest impediment to walkability.

USC has proposed reducing Jefferson and Hoover down to 1 lane each way, adding protected bike lanes and wider sidewalks but of course LADOT is against it.

^^^ I hadn't heard about that, but it's certainly not surprising.

However, USC has in the last year been rebuilding the sidewalks on Jefferson between Figueroa and Hoover, making them wider, and installing bulbouts at intersections. If I remember correctly, bike lanes will replace what used to be curbside parking. A second phase will extend similar treatments to the stretch between Hoover and Vermont.

Also, there is a huge collection of construction photos of USC Village and nearby streetscape work here: http://celloexpressions.com/photogra...g/usc-village/
