Smile Ottawa in just one morning

Back to our long trip along New England and Canada last October, now it´s time for Ottawa.

We spent there the evening and night of Oct 7th and the morning of Oct 8th, when we take all these pictures around the Parliament and the Byward Market. We enjoyed a very sunny and pleasant morning in Ottawa. Although this was my third time there, I would like to go back soon, because I think Ottawa is a very pretty city and it has very much to see and offer.

I hope you enjoy.

We hope to return someday to Ottawa for more days. I must say, it´s a very beautiful city. We loved the gardens, The Parliament, the Rideau Canal..., but we had to continue our tour towards Toronto.

Greetings from Madrid, Spain.

"Marche By" cracks me up.

Gorgeous pictures, Danny. Nice skyline shots also. Don't get to see much of Ottawa's non-Parliament Hill buildings.

It implies keep walking on and don't stop here in English, especially here where by could also be b'y. And I generally love when things aren't completely translated into French. Terra Nova NP has translations on its signs like, "Parc de Camping Malady Head", "Colline Blue", etc.

******

I also kind of like those buildings on the Gatineau side. I've never seen ones of that where they looked so interesting before.

In Danish, "By" (pronounced "bew", more or less) is "town" or "city" and I guess it is sinking in a little bit because I skimmed "Marche By as "city market" before realizing that made no sense and that nowhere in the world is there a society that maintains bilingual French/Danish signage.

"By" is the the of Ottawa's original founders or sorts, Colonel By who was commissioned to build the Rideau Canal

Ottawa was called Bytown before it was renamed Ottawa (Where three rivers meet) before Confederation.

Hopefully one day Hans Island will change though. Though it should also include Inuit and English...

Nice pictures! You covered a lot of ground on Parliament Hill, and I liked that you explained what the places were!
