Leavenworth, Kansas: Temporary Home of Michael Vick
I'm back!! Thanks for the great feedback on my Lawrence post. I took these pictures the same day I shot Lawrence. But I think you will like these. Most of them are concentrated Downtown and at the VA Medical complex. Leavenworth is in the far northwest portion of the Kansas City Metro Area. It's approximately 35-40 thousand people, not including Fort Leavenworth which lies along the northern border.
These shots are of the Veterans Administration complex. The hospital appears to be in fine shape. The other buildings are not being used for whatever reason. They would look cool if they were renovated.
I only took one picture of one house. Sorry!! I had time constraints that day and I was running out of it. I promise to include more neighborhoods in the future.
The next group of photos include downtown.
These are some shots in the warehouse district. I'm not sure if there are plans for renovation.
Some nice renovations here.
Leavenworth Federal Prison. Temporary crib of Ron Mexico.
You can barely see the Bridge in the background, but Leavenworth is situated along the Missouri River.
Hope you enjoyed them!!

Nice pictures. I agree with you, the Warehouse District is interesting. I also found those wooden porches towards the top of the thread to be interesting as well.

Neat! I'm a big fan of small Midwestern cities, and this is one I haven't been to or seen before. Any plans to shoot Atchison?
Glad you asked! I will be making plans to shoot up that way very soon. Atchison will be one of my targets. I will be leaving in an hour to shoot two cities that I don't believe have ever been posted on this webpage.

Leavenworth is an awesome town in regard to both its historic and urban nature, as well as the beautiful hills and scenery in its surroundings.
The place is pretty independent of the KC metro, even in terms of jobs - I'm surprised it isn't its own MSA.
Leavenworth even has its own full-blown suburb, Lansing, KS. Something I don't understand though is why smaller cities with beautiful historic architecture and no real crime to speak of still mostly abandon their cores and think of historic neighborhoods as ghetto. St. Joseph, MO is the same way, probably worse.
