That's true. This time next year, steel will be rising over the site, and every
tower except 5 will be under construction...

Yeah, it's almost down to the height of Ninety West Street!

The dark dismal eyesore does not have much longer to go.

To me it was an eyesore even before 9/11. Not bad in person, but a short fat stump on the skyline. I even remember thinking how it's a shame that it will probably never be demolished in our lifetimes.

Sometimes fate works in our favor...but I never hated that tower. It was never really on my radar.

OK I have a question. It seams that the core of the buildings usually rises before the outer shell. It's been almost a year and the core has not begun to rise. Why??? In Chicago the cores rise really fast why not here?

I'm guessing that they have to sort of wait memorial foundations to be completed. Just a gues... But the core should rise later this summer/autumn...

I've been told that the core will rise with the reast of the tower - as in the case of 7 WTC.

I also thought that, but I don't think we'll see the core rising first, as in the case of the Comcast Center.

Has never been an eyesore exept for the days since 9/11.

Its possible replacement has potential to become a true eyesore. Have you seen the renderings lately? The new Tower 5 looks like a giant urinal!

I said it once and I'll say it again, it would be so cool if the site was used for a replica of the demolished SINGER BUILDING!!!

Or what?

Can somebody please forward this idea?

it would be an excellent proposal BUT the floor plates of the older Singer tower were so small that it would be impossible to get a tenant

If I was Carlos Slim I would built a replica of the Singer Tower

well I can hunt Slim down and ask when i get to Mexico tomorrow. Even my friend works in one of Carlos' businesses. I get fed up trying to call through a telmex cell phone sometimes though, owned by Slim. I miss the old modernistic block. Many great buildings have been lost in New York City through one thing or another. This time we can at least say it wasnt by choice but by events out of our control. I think the newer buildings at the site are quite nice though I wish they showed a bit more exploration. Construction in Chicago and New York vary because Chicagos bedrock is much deeper therefor foundations become easier to construct as needed without pain in the butt excavation. Buildings arne't rising quickly here either though, we have been seeing slow results that have made us just as impatient.

I had originally wanted the building to be saved, but I soon realised that it's days were numbered once the insurers didn't want to pay for the tower to be repaired.

Yeah, the new tower that's planned to replace it DOES look like a urinal or commode.

Makes you kind of wonder if it was worth the trouble trying to repair this one or going for the gaint commode.
