The original twins simply dominated Downtown to the point of overbearingness, especially when viewed from Jersey, and even more especially before BPC.
Also, other products of the Downtown Boom like Gehry NY, 99 Church and 56 Leonard are pushing the skyline northward. This will mitigate what might be perceived by some as the WTC Complex's over-dominance and make it more of the peak it should be. Mr. Yamasaki's originals didn't create a skyline peak as much as it did the opportunity for many to visualize the twins as planting two redwoods in a bonsai patch.

That is a good point, which is one of those reasons why I kind of want to hold out my final opinion because I am curious what the light reflection on the tower is going to be like in combination with downtown. And I do like the fact that it feels like it is more apart of downtown rather than a separate site within downtown.
Though the Gehry building is another thing, I do agree with it stretching downtown more northward, which is a good thing, but dammit do I hate that building so much and even more so now that it is named after Gehry.
But that is a whole different topic.
