Yeah, I didn't know what to expect as I'd never seen a boat racing event before, but was pleasantly surprised... Very fast-paced, and with the wind and waves being as fickle as they are, definitely makes for a good watch.

I'll certainly try and make it out for the second regatta next weekend...
Should be a bit interesting with the Fleet Week craziness happening simultaneously.

Garin / Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Parks
2012.09.01

Perhaps one of the great treasures of the Bay Area is the plentiful open space, and the East Bay doesn't disappoint here, with an array of parks up and down the East Bay Hills catering to a variety of users. I already dropped some photos of Tilden Park and Clarement Canyon Regional Preserve in the very first batch of images, but here's a set from a lesser-known pair of parks deeper into the cookie-cutter homes and office park goodness.

Hayward / Union City / Fremont

Many of the larger Bay Area parks are former ranchland, purchased from private owners and converted into public open space and parkland. The local political context being what it is, it’s extremely difficult to develop any of these remaining pockets of undeveloped land… The East Bay Parks District’s recent $6.2 million purchase of the 1,400-acre Robertson Ranch made local headlines. Theoretically, the open space serves as a buffer to contain new development within the urban core of the Bay Area. Realistically, the new development just moves further out to places like Mountain House.
