It looks like a giant old beige block, disappointing. Maybe the Catholic Churches glass buildings will bring balance to the area.

I will take one "beige" block to balance out 100 glass ones (which exist all over the city)...but it's not true anyway. The meeting house is red brick and the temple white granite. And modern style glass buildings are in clear sight lines from most vantage points on the block.

It does fit in really well with The Sheraton and The Watermark.

So do you consider the Empire State Building to be boring?

A scaled down Empire State Building (1,454ft), without a spire, is pretty boring.
A building similar to Kodak Tower (366ft), would have been a better choice.

This is a residential building with top-end materials being used throughout. I haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about.

Me neither. Would not fit well. Plus, that Kodak building is pretty ugly in my opinion. The Alexander is much nicer and classier.

EDIT: I take that back. Kodak seems to be a nice building with great bones. But it needs the 1970’s dusted off...regardless, it or something like it would make little sense in place of the Alexander.

This building works so well because there were not any skyscrapers built around Logan Square when Art Deco was the dominant style, as those are primarily around the Avenue of the Arts and Rittenhouse Square. If you look at old pictures of the Parkway, nothing is higher than the Basilica, and even still, the Sheraton is the tallest building north of Race Street, and that's only 330 feet. The Alexander, in a way, is a piece from the past for an area that never had a skyscraper.

Also, is it just me, or did Wikipedia look weird when I clicked on the link?

nice to see the last of the exterior panels in place. It's taken a while, but once the external elevators came down its taken very little time for the panels to go in.
Next the crane will probably fly away.
