That designer should be contracted to fix Watermarke's podium... that thing is a complete joke and I don't understand how the city design standards continue to allow it.

^^ Huh? There is a newish residential building on that parcel. Probably not even 15 years old. I swear, LA is getting worse than Vegas.

^Wow! This is the first instance downtown that I can recall a building building demolished for increased density when the existing building's vintage is so new.

All these towers coming to Figueroa makes one think AEG might eliminate the plaza outside the convention center and build a tower there to take advantage of the Figueroa revamp.

^^^I would like to see it become like an outdoor living room. Plenty of seating, greenery, art, kiosk for retail or food, etc also a newsstand would be nice. Give conventioneers, visitors, tourists & residents some greenspace among all the glass n concrete! Looks to be 700 ft plus! Very EPIC design btw. Unprecedented.

Looks a lot like the Shenzhen Hazens proposal...

EDIT: It's a Gensler design. Shocker.

Replacing a shitty 4 story wood framed building on a prominent corner with a beautiful 53 story tower is somehow a bad thing?

No, the end result is not my issue. It's just wasteful. Not to mention disruptive for the people living there.

It will take a few years for this to go through entitlements, no one living there is being "disrupted" and how is this wasteful? The apartments here are a poor use of land.

I think that whole strip of low rises along Fig to the fwy junction, are now in play, regardless of how old they are. That real estate is just too valuable.

Indeed. This is a wayyyyyys off.

Latest DTLA tower proposal sheet, its like 2006 on steroids. 21 towers currently under construction, and 49 proposed.

Agreed! I don't care if that building was built in 2004 or 1984; it's ugly and the site it occupies deserves much more. This gives me hope that that monstrosity Avant will meet the same fate 10 years from now.

Now that is a tower designed to make a significant impact on South Park.

The rendering makes it look almost twice as tall as Circa, which is 420'. It's a pretty big crown on top, but I would say realistically it looks to be around 750' (?)

... I told you guys to calm down and enjoy the journey.

I am not surprised about all those new skyscraper projects.
Take a look at Seattle and other cities, it's not like we are doing so much better, it's just the perfect time.

We need more housing so bring it on.

Speaking of the journey, it appears that the current journey is soldiering on. Looking at the Metropolis webcam, it looks like Apex Phase II is framing the second floor plate. Once they get above the parking podium, that bad boy should shoot up pretty quickly.
