The massing is great! The two Chestnut wings feel like they're the same height as the Left Bank from 31st and Chestnut, and the taller section is in a great place to break up what would otherwise be an overly monotonous streetscape (cf. the Science Center's older parts, about half of Downtown D.C.).

The materials are horrible! The '80s called--they want their design back.

Now that the exteriors are this far along, I'll say that I don't think the buildings look very nice by themselves. That said, they seem to have just the right massing from every angle, blending in very well with University City while adding some nice 'European' density to the street level.

Massing and density are nice, but visually this building is a mess: horizontal bands of glass interrupting a vertical column relief motif, slapped next to alternating offset window placement on the tower portion. It's like wearing a plaid blazer over a striped shirt with polka-dotted pants. Just pick a style and go with it, already.

I do very much like some of the other towers under construction in the immediate vicinity, however, and the whole area looks like it will be quite nice, and active once these buildings are complete.

Again. Thanks for the pics. The presence this building brings to the street is great. Can't wait for the retail spots to open to add some more vitality to this stretch since the buildings across the street are somewhat unwelcoming to pedestrians.

^ Thanks for finding all the great photos!

Gotta admit: to me, at least, this is looking a lot better in real life than it did in the renderings.
