Penetrating Pittsburgh

Ive been in Pittsburgh for four months now and have explored most of southwest PA and the surrounding areas, so heres some photos from the past few months.


Heinz Lofts and the North Shore under the full moon tonight.


The Southside

Ohiopyle State Park way south of Pittsburgh, almost into WV.

Manchester neighborhood which is gentrifying in certain areas, while other areas of this once beautiful neighborhood are quickly getting torn down.

An abandoned school in East Liberty, which is luckily seeing a lot of gentrification and renewal.


The Southside

Johnstown, which was devestated in a late 1800s flood, about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh in the mountains.


Fort Necessity National Battlefield, this is where the Seven Years War pretty much started in July of 1754. Its about 2 hours south of Pittsburgh.


This is the completely abandoned downtown of Brownsville, about an hour southwest of Pittsburgh.


The little brown building on the right of the photo is one of the oldest buildings left in downtown Pittsburgh, I believe it was built around 1830 or so.

Wilkensburg, the furthest east urban neighborhood, then its the suburbs after that.


The abandoned Carrie Furnace, built in the early 1900s, its one of the last steel blast furnaces left in the country.

The Hill neighborhood just east of downtown, used to be one of the densest and most historic neighborhoods in the city, today its vastly destroyed.

Lawrencville neighborhood, this is where all the hipsters live.

The small town of Harmony about 45 min north of Pittsburgh, most of the buildings in this photo date from 1809-1811.


McConnels Mill State Park with its 1870s covered bridge.


New Castle, about an hour and a half northwest of Pittsburgh.

Ive posted this photo before in my first Pittsburgh thread, but this is pretty much the first photo I took of Pittsburgh within the first few minutes of being in the city from Mt. Washington.
