I don't think it's the amount of people being born in China dallasbrink, rather the huge amounts of students who now realize they have to get an education and all those students graduating need a good place to work. So companies make new skyscrapers to allow more companies into moving to the country, this gives jobs to people and China gets a stronger economy.

Ronin was making a joke, give him a break.

The main reason that there are so many towers being built on spec in Shanghai is because of 2010. In 2010 it will be legal for foreigners to own their own company without a Chinese partner. Most of these towers are foreign owned. There's no way Chinese developers could afford to construct all of these skyscrapers.

That makes sense.

I wish I could go to China specially Hong Kong and Shanghai. I love these two cities. I thought all the companies in China were supposed to be partnered with the government? I guess I was wrong.

I'm starting to be sick of twisting towers.
This one is nice though...

Yeah, seems to be all the rage these days. This is a nicer looking implementation of that concept though, I would agree.

The height of this is most impressive.

O.K. I have to admit this is probably the best proposal out of all of them. It's so nice.

Pay no attention to that guy (Ronin). It's common for lazy bigots to assume things rather than to research them and then talk out of their ass.

Why are you guys still ranting about that one statement? It was just a joke made several months ago. Forget about it.

The facade of the SOM design for this building reminds me of the facade for the SOM design of the SF Transbay Tower.

Wasnt that one of the proposals in SF for the Transbay Terminal?

This tower must be as tall as Burj Dubai, judging from the height comparison with the SWF in the picture. Isn't this the KPF proposal posted on the first page?

^ yes I realize I'm responding to one of the banned...

I agree with this in principle, but China is nowhere near behaving like a "family of hamsters". Its, of course, inevitable that a country with a population so large will continue to grow, but with their population restrictions, their population will inevitably hit a peak, and it probably won't be decades away. Just saying. Maybe its for the best? (even though I don't really believe in population control)

However, I have to admit that I'm jealous of the amount of building going on in shanghai and beijing, even with all the building going on in chicago. Do they need any of these proposals to be built? who knows. Would a winning bid being built be amazing? absolutely. like I said, I'm jealous of a lot of the designs in there.

Now, I don't want it to seem like I'm trolling or anything, but no how many amazing things shanghai could potentially build, I'll never get over how bad the oriental pearl is. But I'm sure that building has had to have been beaten so many times that mentioning it negatively is automatically trolling.

Could a mod lock this and put staff's thread in place? Kinda hard to follow along for those who are just jumping in on discussion, esp now that there is site activity. Renderings and updates are all over.
