The Toronto-Hamilton relationship is most analogous

Thoughts?

[Besides being annoyed that thread titles can't be changed by the OP?]

Sea Tac, of the listed choices. Toronto-Hamilton may be more like a pair not listed in the poll, Dallas-Fort Worth. Two cities, formerly very different, with independent histories and corporate personalities, now grown together into one urban aggregation. And can’t you hear a Hamilton like scorn in this line from a friend from Fort Worth:

Fort Worth, where the West begins
Dallas, where the east peters out.

My thought is that this could be left to the Ontario forum.

Would be easier with some maps and statistics to help compare.
But without that, I chose Seattle-Tacoma.

the city is 32 miles from Seattle, 200k .

it's not a city the size of Hamilton.

My immediate thoughts when looking at the list was to suggest DFW which isn't in it. Fort Worth is a decently big city that wouldn't need any neighbor to stand on its own, and commuting numbers are pretty low, yet just about everything that matters in the metro area is located in Dallas and/or branded as Dallas' (pro teams, etc.)

Tacoma seems like a good stand-in for Hamilton: the blue collar, industrial city at the edge of the metro at the head of the lake/bay.

Newark is too centralized within the NYC metro to be an equivalent of Hamilton. New York-Philly and Washington-Baltimore are more akin to a more distant Montreal-Ottawa type relationship, while Manchester-Liverpool are too close in size & influence to have any decent comparison here. And Worcester...I'm just not particularly familiar with.

I said New York-Newark, but it was tough between that and Seattle-Tacoma. Newark has a bigger national presence than Tacoma, which has basically fully dissolved into suburb status. But in both cases, nearby largely independent cities which have overtime morphed into a single urban area, with one city becoming the dominant one.

Big enough to be recognized in its own right. Separate founding. Enough Geographical distance to have their own hinterlands.

I was also going to say Calgary-Okotoks, but someone beat me to it. Okotoks is extremely famous for having a number of things to do. Its pride means that it will never surrender to becoming Calgary's Mississauga. Unfortunately, that's the way those haters at Statistics Canada see things, and this is why they conspire to keep Okotoks teeming denizens from the Calgary CMA counts. Downright criminal, when you think about it.

I think there may have been a misunderstanding. When I made that suggestion I was equating Okotoks with Toronto and Calgary with Hamilton. There are a number of things to do in Toronto, not so much Hamilton.

Seems like the poll shouldn't exists. There aren't sufficient options. Although an argument could be made as to whether this thread as a whole serves a purpose.
