Agreed that the black windows are far more appealing. They're also more expensive, though, because black windowframes have a larger amount of expansion/contraction when exposed to sunlight.

They need more careful engineering and thus higher cost... which is why Climate Guard doesn't offer their bargain-basement windows in black.

Whoa, what now? Closing a massive money-making Loop garage?

They must have some really strong indicators to move forward.

By massive, you mean four stories on a tiny lot? This garage is barely as tall as the L tracks, and has maybe 125 spaces.

And a nearly identical aging garage will remain on the quarter-block north of Marble. IIRC a proposal during the boom a decade ago had both garages simultaneously replaced by one long office mid-rise. I wonder what in the future is likely on the remaining quarter-block, given the 20 story blank wall east of it and this new building south of it.

Also, I can't remember whether the 8-story corner building on Adams is historic or even protected. If not, do you suppose its owner just blew a chance to sell to this developer - with a tiny corner plot, is there much economic future to this structure?

The historic building next door isn't protected, but is a nice old school Chicago style building. Having this project go up next door will probably preserve it for the foreseeable future which is a good thing. We need 5-8 story buildings with historic charm and no parking mixed in whereever possible in this city.

Today
The Van Buren Building is starting to make an impact. The crane for the CNA building is popping through, too, but I don't think the building itself will be visible. The top of Vista should be visible, but I think One Bennet will be too Far East. They just need to work on that sulcus between JHC and River Point now.... River North, I'm looking at you...

^^^Nothing less than glorious if 311 s. wacker gets it's twin brothers someday. It would fill those two empty spaces in perfectly.

Progress Continues at 8 East Huron

In anticipation of the project’s fall 2017 opening, 8 East Huron (alternatively known as CA State/Huron and 2 East Huron) is entering its final stages of construction in Chicago’s thriving Near North Side neighbourhood.
496-Unit Rental Tower on the Rise in Chicago's South Loop
Quote:
Since construction began last spring, progress at the site of 801 South Financial, a 496-unit rental tower designed by Pappageorge Haymes Partners for Wood Partners, LLC in Chicago's long-overlooked South Loop has been moving along nicely. The soon-to-be 33-storey, 354-foot structure is now roughly halfway to the top. Just a few blocks south of The Loop, the transformation of a former surface lot into a home for approximately 750 new residents will be a welcome boost to the area. South Loop has recently become a hotbed of activity, as new developments continue to rise.

The Aberdeen and Ogden tower passed CPC with a new look. I think I preferred the shorter version with more glass.

North and Ashland hotel is still a total dog.

I'd rather see the southern twin get built, then eventually a building somewhere between the height of 311 Wacker and Sears built on the northern lot.

The North/Ashland hotel went from being a piece of shit from 1971 to being a piece of shit from 1988

I wasnt talking about the old original 2 that would make three from back in 91', I was talking about those two silver buildings that were proposed about a year ago. Those two new ones were matching towers if I rememer correctly.

710 N. Clark

Have we heard about this? This Loopnet listing for the small building next door states that there's a 190-room Home2 (extended stay Hilton) breaking ground on the site soon:

I wasn't sure what you were seeing, so I talked to someone from McHugh down there today. According to him, there is nothing happening with the data center.
