I started to go through my usual routine of quoting a couple of my favorites but you have way too many postcard shots in this thread

Almost makes me want to give it a visit.

i realize that im responding a bit late. i've not explored cajun country much at all, regretfully. ive been around gulf coast creole mississippi, north shore of pontchartrain in fishing cabins, mississippi delta around vicksburg, etc, but not west of town (new orleans) much.

If I were you, Id fly into Lafayette or New Orleans and go up the River Road and then go to bayous near Lafayette. Lafayette isnt that cool, amazing food but thats about it. The small towns in south Louisiana are where its at. St. Martinville is a must, Breaux Bridge, Washington, Grand Coteau, New Iberia, Morgan City, Crowley, Avery Island, Baldwin, Franklin, Abbeville, Pierre Part, and Jeanerette are all must see small towns with tons of history around Lafayette. Lafayette is a fairly new city, didnt really take off until the oil boom of the 20s. Its a traffic nightmare and tons of ugly oil service industry. If you ever plan on taking a trip to southern Louisiana, PM me. I can tell you all the good spots to not miss.
Great thread. Can't believe I just saw this but I can't agree with this. Many places in East Texas to see from Caddo Lake down to Big Thicket to the Gulf. The Golden Triangle is basically an extension of Southwest Louisiana.
