This project has made some impressive progress. What sort of amazes me though is the street grid in that area resembles one of a suburban corporate park.

Likely end of the year, it's only around 400m at the moment so still a long way to go.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. It does not seem to be very pedestrian friendly, in a sense that one could bike or walk to work, as I would prefer. It could just be the few areas where I have seen the street level. Unfortunately I have not visited and may be wrong.

This is Lujiazui, Pudong district. It was not planned to be walkable. I would take Puxi, a very dense, urban and pedestrian friendly district. Puxi is actually the core of Shanghai - just like a second Manhattan.

The district is actually very walkable, although cycling is still not recommended due to traffic.

There are wide sidewalks at street level.

Most crossings at at street level, although there are a few pedestrian bridges.

The sole major pedestrian bridge complex in Lujiazui, which connects the subway station with the adjacent park, IFC, and a few more buildings next to it.

Wow, this tower has made a lot of progress since I last check in on this thread.

When I see the renderings it looks surreal, can't wait to see it actually built.

Probably not until the end of next year. They've still got about 300m to go.

Not a huge fan of the glass system. Or the way it looks, then again, I'll reserve comment when glass becomes more imposing.

There will be two layers of glass to this, correct? One on the outside of the mezzanine and one on the inside against the edge of the structural steel, right?

That's right. They've started installing the outer glass, but not yet the inner glass.

Wow. That sun-drenched shot is killer. It could be the cover of a kick-@ss SF novel. Very well done.

I still can't believe how small the floor plates seem compared to the core. Also, considering they have the larger floors between each segment anyway, it seems strange they wouldn't just build all the floors to the outer curtainwall and maximize the floor space.

I agree, freaking intense. the way the fog (smog?) cuts right through the hole in the top of SWFC, its amazing.

SWFC is definitely one of the best supertalls build in the past decade. amazing building and amazing proportions.

Still not sure where Shanghai Tower will rank among the big 3. competition is stiff!
