Thanks Yuri for your work. I feel you don't get enough appreciation. Just know some like the stats your present when it comes to many other cities.

Do we have figures for Q3/Q4 of 2015? Curious on some of the growth rates for Texas and the South for 2015. I've found a lot of 2014 data, so I'd imagine 2015 isn't out yet until this April of 2016. At least I think; possibly not looking in the right area.

Thanks, Cris! You are so kind.

To me, only the US and Brazilian ones are easily available. For all the other countries, it's quite difficult to find. You need to work with proxies, estimating the % share of the metro GDP compared to the country, etc.

For the US, you indeed have to wait the BEA update the numbers, but it's getting close. For Brazil, you need to wait two years: in November they released the numbers for state (we got 2013) and in December for all the 5,600 the municipalities.

Very remarkable Seoul's advance since I started track in 2011. Oddly, its GDP per capita is slight below national average. 50% of South Koreans live in Seoul metro area (25.6 million inh.);

Santiago just above US$ 20,000 per capita, and now, ahead São Paulo (US$ 19,970). Brasília is at US$ 21,800, but its GDP is heavily deformed by the public administration;

Johannesburg-Pretoria a bit disappointing. They are getting a larger share of South African GDP each year though.

Metro area/urban area boundaries have zero to do with state boundaries. Most of the NY metro area isn't in NY State.

A metro area could be far bigger or far smaller than one of its constitutient states. States are highly variable in size, obviously, as are metro areas.

Yes it is. At Least the majority of the metro is in NYS.

New York City proper, several upstate counties and whatever is in Long Island.

No, most of the land area of the NYC metro is outside of NY State.

Maybe you're referring to population? A slight majority of the population resides within NY State. Keep in mind that NYC is rather small geographically, and most of the suburban population lives in NJ, not NY.

Of the four states in the NYC CSA, NJ is actually the state that is most heavily encompassed by the NY Metro. Connecticut comes second, then NY State, then PA. The vast, vast majority of the NY State geography is outside of the NYC CSA, which is why a comparison of state and metro boundaries doesn't make sense.

Admin note: let's keep the city versus city arguments to a minimum. A moderator had to come in and delete a lot of posts. We have to be sticklers about the city versus city content due to our history with these sort of posts on this forum.

Guangzhou with a US$ 18,000 GDP per capita (probably lower due the fast population increase), just below Santiago and São Paulo, the wealthiest amongst the cities located in developing countries.

San Antonio's GDP total is far more than what is listed here. Smaller cities half the size with less industry and less of a corporate base, population, etc, but prouduce nearly the same or more GDP? Cost of living must also have an effect and these rankings are not really a good indicator of the true size of a city's economy. As of 2014 San Antonio has surpassed $100 billion but it is larger than that, a conservative figure in my opinion.

^ You'll be forgiven only because that girl on your avatar is cute enough, but really, the common Latin alphabet widely in use all over the West (and maintained in its most simple and efficient shape in English) is way, way way way easier than your tons and tons of Asian symbols!

You sure could easily speak and write French, huh! Lol

Yuri, can you do one for Africa and Europe? Curious where they stand. Africa especially as the continent has seen an explosion of growth. The rise of the African mega cities.

As always, splendid job with your stats.

Props btw for LA for breaching the 1 trillion mark.

Right away, chris! I'm actually working on Europe metro areas now. I'll add more countries tomorrow.

Regarding Africa, it's hard to find regional stats from there. Even for South Africa is not that easy.
