Ikea could possible work there since it would be easy access for north shore and gulf coast and still would get Baton Rouge folks although I still think Kenner is better location over all this could work too
Yeah but you can't look at it in isolation. The people in Lake Charles aren't part of a major metropolitan area with other retail options in close driving distance.

I would actually argue that New Orleans like most US cities has too much retail space overall, it's just concentrated in a few locations (Vets, Elmwood, Covington) while other areas are deserts due to scarcity of land.

IKEA is reportedly moving toward a compact showroom-and-delivery business model, but without any warehouses in Louisiana I imagine they would need some kind of big-box store somewhere. But it may be cheaper for them to just build a warehouse in an industrial area and then a handful of small showrooms across the region.

Started from the bottom...Our team has topped out at the Higgins Hotel's 9th floor, which will be home to the hotel's rooftop bar, Rosie's on the Roof. Waterproof roofing installation and MEP rough-in are now underway. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses over the next few months leading up to the hotel's late Summer completion date. #palmisanoprojetcs #nationalwwiimuseum

One of 5 pedestrian bridges nearing completion at the Sydney & Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden expansion site at the New Orleans Museum of Art. These bridges will connect the sculpture garden and allow visitors to stroll through the landscape with ease. In total, there will be 3 boardwalk passageways, a steel bridge with an etched glass surface that is an art piece itself, and a concrete “Moses” bridge that will be the second of its kind in the world. #palmisanoprojects

this is the concrete moses bridge in Netherlands

What's best deal for Louisiana in Harrah's license renewal? Study to determine value

https://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana...a9e450909.html

An aggressive and ultimately controversial effort by Harrah’s New Orleans Casino to extend its operating license by 30 years died on the final day of the legislative session last year over uncertainty about whether the state was getting a good deal.

Now, a study initiated by Senate President John Alario to help determine what the state should demand is laying the foundation for Harrah’s to try again during the upcoming legislative session.

...

Separately, Louisiana Economic Development is doing a more comprehensive study of the state’s gambling industry. The state agency is in the process of choosing a consultant and hopes to have the results by the time legislators convene on April 8, said spokesman Gary Perilloux.

Does this mean that the hotel tower/other developments are still a possibility? It was my understanding that they were completely thrown in the trash.

I expect this study to answer that... personally i think we need two at least lamd based casinos in orleans parish... a land based casino anchoring the market street power plant would be amazing

S Claiborne Fencing Project

this may not seem very exciting but to those that live in the area or frequent it this simple fencing project will drastically reduce the homeslessness and vagrancy under the overpass... and im sure that bodes well for the long term redevelopment of neighboring properties too

Do you know if they are going to put parking in there? Fencing will help, but without regular activity or patrolling I could see there still be a problem. Plus it would probably be useful as more parking lots are developed in the area plus the Charity redevelopment.

no parking! so will work unlike calliope... theres nowhere to even park cars under there if they wanted to because theres stone seating etc.. so this will be cleaned up finally which im so excited about... they just need to get rid of the parking under calliope altogether.. so they can just fence it off

this is definitely no surprise conversion since the apartments were crap and the 10 year requirement to maintain as residences is now up. Thankfully this will activate the ground floor with many uses now.. that whole two block area is going to be very different in 2 years
