I am really impressed with Salt Lake City. I had no idea that it's so nice.

Is it a very conservative and religious city? Are most people Mormons?

The city was founded by mormons, or now commonly called the LDS Church, so there's a lot of religious history to the city, and obviously a lot of mormons in the area. Salt Lake City has a lot of diversity and the city itself is actually pretty liberal - no republican mayor in about 40 years - Always vote for a democratic president, etc, while the surrounding state is more conservative. Like many American places actually. It's a fairly progressive area in many aspects.

Salt Lake City infill:

By Barbara Rattle
The Enterprise

http://www.slenterprise.com/sle/two-...ound-in-summer

Two downtown Salt Lake City apartment projects are slated to break ground this summer, to be followed by a third a year from now.

Mission Viejo, Calif.-based Wasatch Advantage Group has resurrected its 125-unit Providence Place affordable workforce housing project at 309 E. 100 S. and plans to begin construction in August or September. Provo-based PEG Development LLC is moving ahead with plans for the Eastside Apartments, a 174-unit, market rate project at 350 S. 600 E., and Broadway Place, a 73-unit, market rate development aimed at independent seniors, at 556 E. 300 S. Ground should be broken for Eastside in September, Broadway Place next April.

Wow Tony, looks like there is definitely a demand developing for certain types of projects as the economy continues to rebound, or maybe we should say, "continues to evolve."

Hey Robert, Yes, there are definitely a lot of water features in Downtown Salt Lake City. Particularly, many have come to fruition over the past fifteen years, since the before and after buildup that has occurred surrounding the Olympics. Like myself, it sounds like your a big fan of water features. I'll make a point of posting a mix of pics of some of these fountains over the next week.

I've noticed a huge expansion in residential developments in Salt Lake the past 10 years or so, and it just keeps on going. There has been many affordable apartments, but also a good mix of market-rate apartments and condos.

As of current known projects right now, and this would be a minimum and could change, there will be over 700 units added to SLC this year (2010). Almost all in the central city / downtown area

Fountains & Water Features of Downtown Salt Lake City

Beautiful fountains and grand water features have become a
prevalent fixture of Downtown Salt Lake City over the past few
years. Each development boom seems to add many more, as Salt Lake
City's CBD marches forward in it's amazing transformation. The following
are pics of some of those water features, which have added another
level of beauty and excitement to the evolving streetscape of downtown.

A tiny hint of things to come. This is the first of what will be many water features
created for City Creek Center. Waterfalls, large streams, babbling brooks and grand fountains will soon appear one
by one, as this massive, 25 acre center nears completion.

I love water features. They provide a focal point, landmark and give a distinct character to a neighrhood, yet give the feel as a whole community.

What I like the most are water features in the center of a traffic circle. In addition lighitng for night-hour viewings.

I especially like it when a parking lot is converted into a park with water features.
