That is just it: there was no alternative. The job of Mayor in Winnipeg no longer attracts boisterous individuals unlike many other cities.

The title "Mayor of Winnipeg" has 10 foot pole marks all over it.

Bowman will be sorry he did it, he had a good career going.

So by my reckoning we're about a year and a half out from the next municipal election. Any early signs as to who might be running for mayor? I would think that Bowman will run for re-election, but he could have a fight on his hands given his so-so performance. Will the centre-right coalition that backed him in 2014 remain behind him, or are they going to try to take him down? It'll also be interesting to see who heads up the challenge from the left... JWL was a fairly polarizing character, sort of our Hillary Clinton. I would think they'd be picking someone more palatable than her this time out which could also mean a more formidable challenge to Bowman.

Usually incumbent mayors don't have much to worry about in this city, but the 2018 election could be really interesting.

It will be interesting, Bowman will likely have lost the pro-development right (given that they are suing him over growth fees) and this group will never vote left. Unless another candidate from the right comes in where will this vote go, and if there are right wing and a left wing candidates does Bowman just come up the middle?

Based on previous elections, we simply do not see great contenders.

Bowman is a terrible mayor plain and simple, can't speak of his law career, but guessing by his poor judgement who would hire him?

There are more than a few out of work former NDP MLAs who could take a run for mayor. Oswald? Chief?

^ What's wrong with Kevin Chief? At the very least he'd be no worse than Bowman. Plus he gets along with Chipman

Nope. Not a fan. No thanks. I'll spare you my personal, anecdotal opinion of Kevin.
