Don't get your hopes up. All kinds of diamond bearing Kimberlite pipes have been discovered in Saskatchewan in last 25 years. Nothing substantial has ever resulted, although tens of millions have been spent on exploration and even test mines.

The Sask search even attracted DeBeers and other major players. They found some big diamonds, but it still was not enough for them to make the huge investment in a full-fledged mine, which I seem to recall would cost $1.6 billion.

^ Could be the case here as well, no worries, we'll see if it ever becomes a profitable find several years down the road, if ever.

The last thing DeBeers wants is a bunch of diamond mines opening up around the world.

Ya they said Manitoba is the last province Between Ontario and Alberta to discover diamonds. They're small, less than 1mm. Further exploration is continuing so who knows.

Similar to Potash. That invisible line that is the Mb/Sask border is like the great divide. Manitoba potash is not a sustainable endeavor as of yet. However ,the Rocanville mine just a stones throw from the Manitoba border is a high producing mine.

So you never know.

Here is a sample of what Shore Gold has found at its Star Kimberlite property and they still can't get a mine built.

The former Royal Oak Inn in Brandon is now a Clarion. Still owned by Genesis Hospitality, whose main brand is Victoria Inn. No major changes expected.

https://www.vicinn.com/

That hotel used to be the Red Oak Inn. They changed the name to the Royal Oak Inn after the Queen stopped there to powder her nose for a few minutes back in 1984 when she opened what became the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building at Brandon University.

Not involved with this particular movie shoot at this time but a shout out to
MARQUETTE, MB and the crew on set in "Siberia" starring Keanu Reeves..
It wraps at this location shortly..

http://mytoba.ca/arts/keanu-reeves-s...ette-manitoba/

Let's hope the PC's don't axe the MB. Film tax credit which would pretty much grind production of movies in this province to a halt...

Would $178K really grind production to a halt?

No tax credit... No film industry ....almost everything shot in Ontario and Quebec depends on it... It's vital... The Toronto studios are full allowing for overflow to find its way into Manitoba ( A Dog's Life recently shot for example). Our Toronto studio (www.tedlofilmstudios.com) has been booked solid just finishing up three seasons of Saving Hope with a new series starting entitled The Lead. We are contemplating a second sound stage in Winnipeg but would be dependent on a commitment from the provincial government to maintain this valuable tool which creates employment in Manitoba...

For a comparison, the Sask govt cancelled the film tax credit and eventually introduced something else... The industry packed and left the province en masse. It was so dramatic that the province had to put forward a whole bunch of ad hoc program funds to get the Corner Gas movie to film here.

Agreed..straight to the point.

I can't even hazard a guess to how many of the 35+ productions I've been involved in would have ever come to fruition without this type of incentive. It's a highly competitive industry, they'll quickly move on to greener pastures. Employment opportunities will be lost and the innumerable spin off benefits to the economy as well.

Interesting to hear about the 2nd sound stage. Involved in several shoots on Pacific Ave.

Pretty cool spot. My family origins in Manitoba are at Meadows, just down the road from Marquette. Visited there frequently. One of the few wooden grain elevators remains at Meadows.

It's amazing how quickly those wooden elevators all disappeared...30 years ago they were totally ubiquitous in rural areas, even 10 years ago they were still common. Now they're a rare sight.
