I'm worried about this as my son has a very good job there. He isn't worried though.

Anyone know what's going to happen to the naming rights of MTS centre? Bell MTS centre ? Curious.

^ I wonder if the name will in fact change? If you go to the MTS website, they haven't abandoned their old branding yet.

This question was brought up at the time of the sale of MTS to Bell and it was noted there would be no change to the name of the MTS Centre. I guess that could change once the naming rights are up for renewal.

I have said it before, when the MTS Centre name changes "TSN Centre" would seem to be a reasonable choice. TSN is a strong Bell brand and it has a long association with the Jets. It would also be a nice jab at Roger's buying out the national NHL rights from under TSN who is left with only the Jets regional rights now.

Naming rights would transfer as an asset of MTS to Bell under the sale. In terms of timing of a name change I would expect July/August as it would be outside the Stanely Cup/Calder Cup final range of dates. Changing out signage like that would likely not be something you would want to do mid season.

Along those same lines, the MTS Iceplex would also be due for a name change.

^ That would be kind of cool as far as corporate names go, but it would be awkward if TSN ever lost regional broadcasting rights.

Senators have 9 years left on their regional broadcast deal with TSN.

The re-branding is in full swing. There are trucks and vans roaming the streets now with the new BellMTS wrap. Employee ID cards and internal websites switched over.

One has to assume the name of the arena will change. It seemed like an odd fit as MTS was regional and with the Jets back it was more of a national presence with that name. Would not surprise me if they drop the MTS part and go Bell Something. But they do seem committed to keeping the BellMTS brand in Manitoba so perhaps it stays.

Isnt the naming contract up after next year?

I think TSN has Montreal regional broadcasts as well.

MTS Centre should go back to True North Centre! Of course they'd lose millions in revenue, so that'd never happen.

The Canadiens play out of the Bell Centre so that name is off the table. So if the name is Bell * MTS Centre would be changing to "Bell Arena". The flipside is you could keep the "Centre" part of the name and use a different prefix. Yes, TSN has other regional rights including a share of the Leafs but their strong association with the Jets and the building naming rights being in the same corporate family mean it makes sense on some levels, the only "Toronto Sports Network" fake fan name issue aside.

That is very unlikely to happen. There is a reason the Denver Broncos are likely to play their second season at Sports Authority Field after the retailer stopped existing. Naming rights on pro sports facilities is big business.

Their new branding here in the province seems to be "Bell MTS"

Wouldn't be surprised if it became the Bell MTS Centre.

Or if they go with Bell Arena, it would almost sound like "ballerina" in which the Jets would be performing ballet on ice.

I mean, it has a nice ring to it, but it can also quickly go south.

The only other alternative would be Bell Place, or if True North decides to go with a completely different direction with another company to name an arena. I can think of a few names like RBC Arena, Shaw Centre, Scotiabank Centre, WestJet Arena, Great-West Life Centre, Boeing Centre, Boston Pizza Place, Cargill Centre, or Richardson Arena.

Shindico Shelter?

The only companies that won't be in the bidding for future naming rights are provincial crown corps like MPI, Manitoba Hydro and MB Liquor and Lotteries.
