Thanks for the multiple image adds for projects around Winnipeg, looks like your becoming the new Urban photographer for projects in the peg 1/2 of the forum....

I've hear (although through a chain of people) that the condos U/C that burned down have already gotten conditional approval from their insurance company to rebuild the building the same way, the foundation is fine. It'll be interesting (and although sad) to see what happens with the lots the houses were on. Maybe the families take the insurance payout and sell the plots for more condos with commercial fronts....

I also know work will be starting ASAP on rebuilding Maryland from Broadway to the river with a bike lane the whole way. There isn't enough room to have it completely buffered by cars like on Sherbrook, the lane layout is remaining the same. But, they're putting in the bollards and making the bike lane a little wider so there is more of a buffer, and the bus stops will bump out into the street with the bike lane going around them like on Pembina.

I was going to post these pics in the Winnipeg Construction thread but it seems the grownups there are talking so this is how the 'blank' side of Fountain House on Sherbrook is shaping up.

Some retail/F&B at street level would be great to liven up this block. The nasty building to the north needs to be redeveloped.

I really think the city should find another place nearby (off Sherbrook/Maryland) for the gardens, they look like a mess.

I know. They should be tucked away; the current view is awful.

oh. It's not the worst one on the block.
I'd like to see the pawn/cheap furniture place do something or the former Melting Pot building. Both much worse in my opinion. Or the 'Clubhouse' building (former Acropolis resto from ages ago).
The architecture firm just needs to spruce up the exterior with some fresh paint and flowers.

And as far the community garden goes, the funny thing is that when you walk by and actually look at the sections, individually they don't look all that bad. But when taken in in its' entirety from a car it does just look like a vacant lot full of weeds. There was a proposal for that site some time ago wasn't there?

The building at Maryland and Wolsey is coming along. There was someone mucking around in the hole a block north where the the one burned down. The finally tore down the building behind it that was badly burned but it looks like they did take out the foundation for the new one so they are basically starting over from scratch.

^I think someone mentioned a while back that they're completely changing the plans, I think they may have bought that extra lot now or something.

Very nice. Large planters filled with bright flowers would make the front look more welcoming.

Pending sale of 214/216 Sherbrook--hopefully something much better will replace it.

I'm not sure if the pending sale was the one that fell through, but someone withdrew their offer because of the state of disrepair of the commercial front section. Apparently the house is in good shape.

That is most intriguing.

The listing details indicate the laundromat is included as well.

Very interesting. It's a great opportunity at that price even if the storefront portion is in need of attention.

I hope whoever buys it tones it down from the current red and canary yellow paint scheme...
