Definitely.

I don't see them doing it. those elevators would smell like piss all the time.

Heck Yes! Take down the barricades!

No way, no how. Let people keep crossing underground.

I'm not part of the accessibility crowd. You have to be reasonable in terms of money and other stuff. So many elevators downtown smell like piss. And the cleaning products they use to cover the smell are almost as bad.

Let's not go crazy with accessibility. I don't see much access for my friend who uses an iron lung.

I didn't know those still existed. Is there no modern method of doing this?

"The mayor campaigned on a pledge to re-open the crossing to pedestrians by 2019."

Hey, that works for me!

That would be cool. Make it similar to what they have in Toronto or Tokyo.

This will infuriate the naysayers though.

Now everyone gets to wait through two light cycles, hope the dozen people who will cross P&M on foot per day appreciate how Winnipeg became great again with the re-opening of P & M to pedestrians!

We obviously disagree, but that is a great post. Made me smile.

I like the idea of making it something special. I get the feeling it will be phased to allow people to get used to it.

To me opening P & M without legitimate reasons (and not nostalgia) is as goofy as Andrew Friggin Copp playing on the Jets top line!

Does anyone else remember the Portage & Main farmers' market?

Back when the TD Tower construction was announced, it was reported that that wind break / tunnel structure / thing at the base of the tower would be home to stalls for farmers to sell fresh produce.

Or was that just one of those quickly forgotten promises used to get approval and concessions for a new tower, like grocery stores today?

One block over at Portage & Fort, almost a dozen people cross every single light cycle during the workday. You're out to lunch man.

Considering how many half-baked ideas there have been for downtown farmers markets over the years, this wouldn't surprise me in the least. The one at Manitoba Hydro is the only one I can think of that has actually managed to attain any traction in the last 15-20 years.

That said, there was never really much room for a market there, even before they tore down the squat building on Notre Dame next to it a decade or so ago.
