Would it kill anyone to put the entrance onto the street, or at least be a little less brutal to Notre Dame?

I expect that they wouldn't do that because you'd end up with a traffic jam of cars stopping in the curb lane to do pick-ups and drop-offs at the entrance (and pick-ups and drop-offs of infirm people can be very slow).

Tower built on Parkade

Why are they able to build a parking structure with a building on top and Glass House could not? It still bugs me that GH has condos on the 2nd floor with balconies over looking a backplane,, and the building could be 5 floors taller. Also,, parking structures never seem to be enclosed anymore,, I want to get into a warm car with no snow or frost. Hopefully my next car is electric,, so I want warmth for charging.

You'd think they'd put defensive turrets with Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Surface-to-Air Missiles, and heavy machine gun placements on every corner of the building, and then realize the irony of all those things I just mentioned for Manitoba Clinic.

Construction is well underway with the expansion to the existing parkade complete, the old gas station removed and excavation well underway. Actually a little surprised the tower over enclosed parking would have much below grade.

In terms of why it might have some extra bells and whistles compared to other projects -- when the new Manitoba Clinic is completed the old building will become an expansion of CancerCare Manitoba. Based on the age of Manitoba Clinic I would strongly suspect that means a full demo and new build.

Great photos! It'll be nice to watch this building rise. Most of the HSC projects lately have been tucked away out of sight, but this one will be quite prominent.

As to that second photo, man I'd love to see something get built on those surface parking lots along the east side of Sherbrook near McDermot (behind the Tim Hortons billboard). At least the Manitoba Clinic will define the street wall nicely on the west side.

There used to be a really nice turn of the century school there. At least up until about 10 years ago or so.

Yes. I was upset the school was demolished, but having a new Shoppers within walking distance was nice.

1. Manitoba Clinic is actually not part of HSC, that campus actually has at least six players: HSC, Children's Hospital, CancerCare, Manitoba Clinic, U of M and CanadInns.

2. The surface lots you speak of are for the most part very new. Until the school was demolished they were actually the playground/yard for the school. Someone would need to dig into the history of it but I think it was being used by DSFM who have a relatively new looking school about one block north.

Hi.

Long time lurker.

Manitoba Clinic is privately owned.

Children's Hospital, like General, Women's, Psych Health, Rehab are all part of HSC. U of M campus and CancerCare Manitoba are independent.

Once new Manitoba Clinic is complete the plan is for demolition of old yellow building. There have been several announcements regarding a second CancerCare Manitoba building on this site with connection to existing building on McDermot. Very ambitious project.

The parking lot by Shoppers on McDermot and Sherbrook is apparently owned by Cancer care.

New diagnostic imaging / helipad tower progressing as is new Women's Hospital.

I imagine any new projects are very dependent on upcoming election.
