I honestly don't think that you're being toyed with this time. The 8th and Arlington location is currently out for tender and will be the first one built. The plan is to have locations in University heights and Stonebridge next year, as well.

Much-anticipated 2nd Costco store opens in Saskatoon

New location opens doors Thursday morning

CBC News
Nov 10, 2016

The wait is over for Saskatoon shoppers anticipating the launch of the city's second Costco Wholesale store.

More than 100 people rushed through the doors when they opened at 8 a.m. CST, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Charlie Clark and Deputy Premier Don Morgan.

Thursday's launch of the wholesale retailer has been long-awaited by shoppers in the city, with complaints the existing store on Marquis Drive is too busy.

It's appears a new "high end jazz bar, with innovative cocktails and fusion cuisine" is opening in the former Walker's space (in the basement space next to SCYAP).

I noticed a ton of reno's going on there, so I'm interested to see what they've do with the space. It definitely was not very 'high end' previously.

Cool. I hope a "high end" tenant will spur some classing up of the exterior of that building. It looks awful.

Liquor stores operated by Sobeys, as well as Alberta and B.C. companies, coming to Saskatoon in next 18 months

By Charles Hamilton, Saskatoon StarPhoenix
November 23, 2016

Two publicly owned liquor stores in Saskatoon will soon shut their doors.

Two new privately run stores owned by companies from Alberta and British Columbia are expected to take their places. A third will be run by Sobeys, the company that already operates one of two private liquor stores in the city.

The Saskatoon stores are part of a large scale privatizing of Saskatchewan’s liquor industry. Plans are in place to privatize 50 liquor outlets throughout the province. Some of the new stores will replace existing government-run SLGA stores, while others will be completely new.

Saskatoon is expected to get a new Sobeys Liquor store as well as a Metro Liquor and a Liquor Mart.

Retail developments healthy despite economic downturn: Colliers

By Alex MacPherson, Saskatoon StarPhoenix
December 15, 2016

Extremely weak resource prices have devastated much of the provincial economy, but Saskatoon’s retail sector appears to be healthy as it undergoes a shift toward companies that provide basic services, according to a new report from Colliers International.

While the city’s office and residential rental vacancy rates are into double digits, only about 4.3 per cent of the city’s roughly 14 million square feet of retail space remains vacant, likely due to new development, the commercial real estate company said in the report.

“As long as we can keep driving new markets, we’ll continue to expand retail,” said Keith Webb, vice-president of Colliers in Saskatoon, noting new developments have already created large untapped markets in the city.

That growth is reflected in the number of major companies with new stores open or under construction in the city, including Costco, Bed Bath & Beyond, GoodLife Fitness and Save On Foods, Webb said.

Crazy Cactus expected to reopen downtown for New Year's Eve

Alex MacPherson, Saskatoon StarPhoenix
Published on: December 29, 2016 | Last Updated: December 29, 2016 1:32 PM CST

Quote:
Six months after announcing plans to move downtown, and slightly later than anticipated, the brothers who own one of Saskatoon’s best-loved bars are racing to finish renovations in time for the year’s biggest party.

The Crazy Cactus, best-known for serving beer and tequila in green plastic cups, will open its new location at 269 Third Avenue South for a massive New Year’s Eve party on Saturday, said co-owner Blue Clegg.

“I could have picked a more lower-key day, I guess,” Clegg said with a laugh. “But you might as well go with the biggest night of the year … We’re just a couple of jackass bartenders, so we might as well continue the theme of the Cactus.”

The opening — which Clegg said costs $30 to attend — will also be an anniversary celebration of sorts: The Crazy Cactus opened on Melrose Avenue in late 1996. Clegg and his brother Bo bought the place in 2012, after legal troubles forced its previous owner to sell.

Over the next four years, the brothers transformed the gaudily-decorated neighbourhood pub into a popular destination, complete with Mexican food, a battered pool table, and countless “Gringos” served in green plastic cups.

Clegg acknowledged that two decades is an eternity in the nightlife industry, where bars rarely survive longer than a few years. However, he is at something of a loss to explain the Cactus’s continued success.

Cathedral Social Hall coming to Saskatoon this spring in location long held by Spadina Freehouse

by Alex MacPherson, Saskatoon StarPhoenix
January 5, 2017

The partnership behind the new Cathedral Social Hall in Regina is planning to expand into Saskatoon, opening later this year in space that was previously occupied by the now-shuttered Spadina Freehouse.

The group’s Saskatoon location will be similar to its Regina outpost, with long communal tables laden with locally-brewed beer and locally-sourced food, according to Mike Tate, a former Molson Coors Brewing Co. salesman who is now a partner in the venture.

“It piqued our interest,” Tate said of the partnership group’s decision to expand north into Saskatoon.

“If Regina needed … a locally-inspired beer hall or social hall, then we thought Saskatoon could use the same.”

As referenced on their facebook page here, the Ayden folks are opening a new restaurant downtown called Sticks & Stones in the space formerly occupied by The Brasserie.

Interesting. Know the location?

Read an article about the Calgary Popeyes that just opened and the traffic was backed up so bad that they backed up onto the street and some families couldn't get in or out of their driveway. Big draw apparently.

Unfortunately, I don't know for sure. I'd speculate Preston Crossing though.

No one else in SK is flipping to YIG? Saskatoon probably has enough, but all the rural places are going No Frills?

I think in a previous post months ago, you alluded to Broadway being one of the highest grossing EFs, but yet its destined for No Frills also?
