This makes sense, especially if GEMS phase 2 is just now staring their construction. I would expect they would want that building to be mostly complete with core and shell before starting work right next door.

Yes, the question was directly raised at the meeting about when it will start construction and the developer said "if we get the alderman's approval, in about a year".

It is a fairly straightforward and rational argument. If you can't respond with similarly intelligent commentary, maybe you should just ignore it.

LOL... exactly

trying to generate clicks I guess... certainly this isn't even an accurate representation of the handful of NIMBY's at the meeting...

Yes, I loved the comments. It's very obvious the rest of the city (or just the readers) doesn't agree with some of the outrageous claims. I understand that people want their own little utopia, but that utopia is much like a beach that has ever changing tides. It's still a great beach, just roll with the changes.

Why do so many idiots live downtown??? There's nothing residential neighborhood about "Lakeshore East" other than that people live in those buildings. Idiotic.

Crain's has stooped to a new low by giving those idiots a mouthpiece.

^ If this tower is built, the following will happen:

1. 100 children will die
2. There will be a parking armageddon
3. 100 cats will starve
4. Lakeshore East will be cast into perpetual darkness and the elderly will develop Vitamin D deficiency, followed by hip fractures

Actually, it's a good thing that this building is on the north end of the site, so we can avoid most of the discussion about cast shadows...unless it comes from the developments across the river.

I don't know about that. I've seen plenty of elderly folks fret at meetings about the Northern sun. No amount of basic Earth science could convince them of the facts.

I couldn't help but find this building a bit... gimmicky. It's fine with the "jagged" facade, but its asymmetry makes it heavy on the eyes.

The thread image needs to be updated with the latest render. That early fruitstriped one is sending bad vibes into the world.

^^Yes, ^Yes.

I don’t blame anyone for liking the revision, but overall, it's a thoughtless design.

It's unsophisticated, not serious, not designed by a grownup. There's no mind in it, no artistic complexity. (Comparing to Trump) Adrian Smith’s an adult; Gang can’t imagine anything more intriguing than a two-dimensional shape, with no context, no symbolism, just arbitrary movement. And Wanda doesn't even have much presence.

1. Was the checker pattern intentional, and does Gang like it?
2. Is it supposed to look so flat, looking down LSD?
These characteristics dominate the design yet Gang's complacent towards them.

And how's this going to look juxtaposed with the Hancock? Does Gang know? 2 Prudential complements the city's seriousness. Wanda does not.

I bet, instead of looking at her work with criticism, she'll just say “cool” and “it’s better than an empty lot.” I still think it was a doodle.

^LOL... yes it was a doodle... she came up with the frustum design immediately after she was given the job, never attempted to study any other solution, and, of course, has doggedly held on to it ever since...

I think there's a lot of artistic complexity. I like the fact that it's unique too, and the color

Also does anyone think it's odd that they upped the floor count but decreased the height? I guess they're just trying to cram as many floors in there without having the ceilings be too low...
