I know - I just needed some humour for today (go look at the article posted in the Surrey / South of Fraser Rapid Transit thread) and Jordan Bateman has decided TransLink isn't worth his attention right now (he *gasp* actually rates TransLink higher than BC Transit in Greater Victoria).

Also, Boundary Bay could be accessed by commuter Rail and Hwy 99 BRT for transit.....
YVR has a mission and vision to connect BC to the world.

Specifically: "YVR’s mission is connecting British Columbia proudly to the world. In our vision of the future, we see ourselves as a world class sustainable gateway between Asia and the Americas."

Forcing scheduled air service to communities in BC out of YVR goes against what this airport should be about. I realise some who live in Vancouver may not value northern and costal BC however these regions play an important economic role in generating many of the exports and revenue that goes through Vancouver.

That's why I proposed we might have a Terminal 4/3 near the existing domestic terminal (depending on the capacity) to replace the lost terminal at the South.

41st line is a possibility if they ever decide to densify along that road. The route is moving to a B-line soon, which is definitely the precursor to rail.

It's either 41st, or 49th, or both - and 41st has more potential/room to grow.

A 41st line could also extend along Canada Way, maybe even along 8th Avenue to Port Coq.

Wait a minute, wasn't the 3rd Runway supposed to cut into the South Terminal?

The caution about Dubai-like megaprojects that turn into white elephants is a good one. Nuff said on that score.

On the other topic, I trained to fly out of Vancouver when it was just runway 08/26.

The small craft were kicked out of Vancouver and moved to Boundary years ago because of the conflict between small and large aircraft. I followed 747s in, during rain storms in single engine prop planes and that was an experience.

The proposed 3rd runway is shown as a 5,000 foot short runway and that means small aircraft. No way, they are going to mix light and heavies there again.

The real prospect is for the runway that extends way out into Georgia Strait. You can feed heavies into that runway all day directly from thee terminals and have them squirt out without interfering with landings on the other two runways.

You can build two of them side by side into G Strait and have almost unlimited capacity.

I don't think that falls within the purview of any single mayor's office.

They were talking about the Mayors Council, not one specific mayor. You know, the ones that have come up with the 10-year transportation plan for Metro Vancouver?

Edit: And to answer the question, Phase One of the 10-year plan includes "50 new SkyTrain cars for the Expo Line, Millennium Line, Evergreen Extension, and Canada Line."

Yeah, I did a cursory glance through the Phase One Plan but nothing jumped out.

Ah ok. He said "mayor's" which is singular so that's where the confusion came rom.

Yes, that's the official and correct name.
