627 ft is nothing to shake a stick at for LA. For comparison purposes, that's taller than every building in Century City.

I love this project, it really shot up in the past 2 months. The hotel tower is currently working on floor 17 and tower one is currently at floor 33 but the core is somewhere around 36, almost ready to top out.

Photos Show Metropolis Rising in Downtown Los Angeles

Quote:
A recent photo update by one of our Forum contributors shows parts of the Gensler-designed project rising well above ground and starting to majorly impact the cityscape. Indeed, the four highrises that will eventually occupy this site are all under construction. On the southeast corner of the lot, the future 18-storey, 350-room Hotel Indigo is racing towards its final height of 83 metres. It is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016.

Looks like they finally have a concrete pump mounted atop the core of the 3rd tower (40-story), so that one should start to rise a little bit quicker. Plus there's been a core jump over the last week. Hopefully these guys take off before El Nino hits...

^^^ tell me about it. It seems like they ramped up construction the past 2 months. My guess is they are working to get completely out of the hole and above street level by the time our rainy season gets here. Hopefully by that time, some form of drainage system on street level is in place.

Every time I see this thread and this project under construction, all I can think is #BLESSED. Los Angeles is fast on its way to a future as yet even more of a world-class city.

True and the other tower is now 10 feet taller, so nothing to worry about. Metropolis is such a beautiful project. Now imagine South Park with Fig Central and Circa, it's a dream.

When you zoom in on the core of Tower R1 on the earthcam, The core is slanted westerly in a wedge/doorstopper design. Is that normal for cores when they top out? or is that part of the overall "pointy crown" design that we see in some of the renders?

^ I think it's part of the design that you can see in updated renders. You can kind of see it in the rendering that the LA Times published over the weekend in their "future of LA" photo gallery.

How did I miss this project? Very nice project for downtown LA! It reminds me of a mini-Brickell Citi Centre under construction in Miami now.

I wasn't familiar with Brickell City Centre but after looking they appear similar in scope. Not sure that metropolis would be a mini version although there is potential for an additional phase at BCC.

WOW ! I didn't realise that the cladding for Residential tower 1 is already past the halfway mark. They are adding it quickly.
