Nice looking building. And I'm very glad to see buildings now going vertical in Playa Vista vicinity. Too bad the actual Playa Vista development itself has a height restriction.

Demolition of the former Equinox building is ongoing, and spotted shoring rigs for the first time at the Century Park Towers project. There are two rigs, and this one pictured is west of the existing hotel tower, where the new condo towers wlll eventually go. Looks like the towers are indeed moving forward.

Some shots of Marriot Edition Sunset Strip

Facing the Strip

Looking down Doheny

Deceptively large site

You can see the sloping terraces on the south side of the condo tower taking shape

The Waldorf should have been twice as tall. What a disappointment. I know the height rules in BH are the reason but come on. It pales in comparison to their recent effort in Berlin -

That is because they are "special." Oh, so very special--you have no idea.

I highly recommend everyone to check out the refined plans for the Crossroads of the World development posted on Urbanized. I think this is as close to a perfect project as can be had in Los Angeles. High quality architecture, a focus on the pedestrian experience, and very high density. This project is going to compose of almost 1000 residential units, as well as hotel, retail and office space. I just love the thought that is going in to this project, like the re-alignment of the street, the pedestrian paseo that empties on to Highland specifically so there is a link to the Red Line station, and the building heights matching the surrounding buildings (besides the high rises). Reading the draft EIR, I noticed that they stated they specifically avoided placing driveways on Sunset, to maintain a comprehensive pedestrian experience. That level of thought and effort to maintain the urbanity of a neighborhood is rarely seen in Los Angeles. And, of course, The Crossroads of the World will be restord. Can one ask for more?

The building they wound up with isn't even proportionately elegant. It's 'chopped off'. They could take a lesson from Century City's very special people -

I agree 100%. i have been patiently waiting for this one to break ground. They have considered everything and i hope the NIMBYS dont fuck this up. This is exactly what we need more of in LA's dense and transit rich areas

I was on Highland this weekend and noticed the site had been cleared and there was heavy equipment present.

Is this breaking ground out of left field?

The fencing has been up for some time, but the heavy equipment would be new. Hopefully they are breaking ground. I actually like this design. Wish it were a bit more dense, though.
