Milwaukee’s Kahler Slater adds another glass tower to the city’s changing skyline

Quote:
Besides the few surviving late 19th-century structures, Milwaukee’s downtown is a milieu of parking structures and second-string postmodern towers. When the BMO Harris Financial Center is complete in 2019, glassy towers—a typology that is only now making its way to the city—will dominate the skyline. Add in the new bikeshare program and forthcoming streetcar, and Milwaukee’s downtown will be unrecognizable.

Developers in Downtown Milwaukee Play With Hot Hand Due to Strong Demand

Quote:
With only two blocks of space larger than 50,000 square feet currently available in the central business district and several large tenants with leases set to roll in the next several years, it is inevitable that construction will commence on one, maybe two additional office towers. That would mean new development this decade would outperform the historical average by several hundred thousand square feet.

Another Potential Tower Proposal

Journal Sentinel block to be redeveloped for newspaper's offices, other uses

Quote:
ProVisions LLC, led by Murray Wikol, also has conceptual plans to demolish a portion of the property, the old Milwaukee Sentinel building, and develop an 18-story office tower at the site.

Those two development phases would amount to investments totaling more than $60 million on downtown Milwaukee's growing west side.

The property's location near the future Milwaukee Bucks arena and Wisconsin Center convention facility make it a good site for redeveloped office and retail space, Wikol said Monday. He also cited the building's views of Pere Marquette Park and the Milwaukee River.

No big surprise here but the Couture is delayed AGAIN...

Barrett Lo plans groundbreaking for The Couture in December

Quote:
Construction on The Couture, a 44-story luxury apartment tower planned by Barrett Lo Visionary Development near the lakefront in downtown Milwaukee, is slated to begin Dec. 4, according to Barrett Lo owner and founder Rick Barrett.
So apparently groundbreaking is set for December 4th but this building has been pushed back time and time again since 2012. Honestly, I'm not holding out hope that this thing gets built. If I were a betting man, come December 4th, this thing will be delayed again. It will play out where come December, they will announce a delay until after Summerfest to avoid dealing with that. Once Summerfest is over, it will get delayed again for some reason, and so on and so on. This has pretty much been the cycle of delays the last 4 years.

Don't get your hopes up that this one gets built. Silver lining? 777 is under construction and BMO Harris Financial Center looks like a go.

Another New Tower Proposal

24-story riverfront hotel, apartment tower pitched for site near former Laacke & Joys building

Quote:
A 24-story hotel and apartment tower would be built in downtown Milwaukee on a site overlooking the Milwaukee River under a new proposal.

The mixed-use project would be built on the site of the redeveloped former Laacke & Joys Co. building, 1433 N. Water St., according to sources familiar with the proposal.

Hyatt Place hotel construction to start soon near downtown arena

Quote:
Construction will soon start on a 150-room Hyatt Place hotel at The Brewery in downtown Milwaukee after an Illinois developer bought the project site last week.

The six-story hotel will open by early summer 2018 at 821 W. Winnebago St., near the construction site of the new downtown arena. The arena is scheduled to host its first Milwaukee Bucks basketball games in fall 2018.

St. John's plans for new 20-story east side tower

Quote:
The project's tax-exempt status "raises troubling issues about tax fairness," said Ald. Robert Bauman, whose district includes the site.

"In other words, this project may add a quality building to the built environment but will not add to the tax base," he said.

Construction would likely begin in spring 2018 if the project obtains financing by the end of this year, Anderson said. The tower would take up to two years to complete.
I would warn against getting excited about this project though. It's in Bauman's district and he has a history of challenging/killing skyscraper proposals. Looks like he is on track to try and do the same here. Can we vote this chump out of office yet?!?!

This could be a big.....

Fiserv could relocate HQ to downtown Milwaukee

Quote:
Those include the BMO Harris Financial Center proposed for completion in late 2019 at 770 N. Water St. Milwaukee developer Irgens is leading that project. There are several other sites in downtown Milwaukee’s central business district that have been pitched to Fiserv where developers have eyed office developments but needed an anchor tenant to get something off the ground.
Personally, I hope this gets Washington Square out of the ground. This would be a big get for downtown MKE.

Plans proceed to develop more Pabst apartments

Quote:
Also, work is scheduled to begin this month on constructing two five-story apartment buildings, totaling 274 units, at 926 W. Juneau Ave. and 1003 W. Winnebago St., and converting part of the former Pabst distribution center, 1131 N. 8th St., into Milwaukee Brewing Co.’s second brewery.
3 more new apartment complexes to start this month in the Pabst neighborhood. 1 is a conversion and the other 2 would be ground up construction. I believe these projects, plus the MKE conversion, essentially completes the Pabst conversion into "The Brewery".

Hotel, apartments, breweries bring next round of Pabst developments to downtown Milwaukee

Quote:
Much has happened during the former Pabst brewery's decade of redevelopment: a hotel at the former brew house, apartments in both new and renovated historic buildings, a university facility and other projects have revived empty structures and vacant lots.

But the picture won't be complete until early 2019, with more than 430 additional apartments, a 150-room hotel and two new breweries highlighting the final development surge.

When that last phase is done, the 21-acre site, now called The Brewery, will include more than 800 apartments, two hotels, three office buildings, restaurants and taverns, as well as new streets and even two small parks — blending what was an isolated former industrial site into Milwaukee's downtown.
Kind of crazy how much construction is currently happening in this immediate vicinity. 5 apartment buildings (3 new construction, 2 renovation), 1 hotel, 1 parking structure, the Buck's arena, Buck's practice facility, and 2 breweries.

Keep in mind, this is just across the river from Park East where under construction/planned projects include 8 new apartment complexes, 2 new office HQ's (potentially a 3rd if Marcus moves to their proposed theater/office tower), and a hotel tower.

The north side of downtown from The Brewery up to Water/Brady is literally one giant construction zone. Block after block of construction sites. Truly amazing to see.

Potawatomi Hotel & Casino confirms second hotel tower plans

Quote:
Potawatomi Hotel & Casino on Tuesday confirmed that it plans to expand its hotel with a second 19-story tower.

Construction on the $80 million project will begin later this year, pending application approval by the city of Milwaukee.

The second tower will house 119 rooms and suites, bringing the hotel’s total number to 500. The 180,000-square-foot addition will also feature a spa and additional meeting space. It is expected to open in the spring of 2019.

Suburban Milwaukee news but wanted to post anyways...

Mayfair Mall plan for new restaurants hits snag

Quote:
The site is currently occupied by a 10-story office building that does not have any tenants. A proposal to tear down the office building and put in a single-story business is what prompted Wauwatosa officials to pause the project.

"Before we approve low-density projects we want to see that (the developer) is going to replace the density," Alderman Joel Tilleson said. "We have a good partner in Mayfair and we expect them to meet us halfway with our long-term plans."
I just found this interesting. They make a good point about tearing an office tower down to be replaced with some stand-alone restaurants. My problem with this is that they are arguing for increased density here yet across the street, they downsized a 5-STORY APARTMENT BUILDING because it was too dense. How does that make sense?

Very similar situation to what has happened in Milwaukee where "Alderman" Bauman "supported" the streetcar because it would promote increased density, yet he purposefully derails multiple skyscraper plans because they are too dense.

I'll don't understand these arguments.
