Yeah, I believe this is the only highrise U/C in DTSJ right now.

The SJSC towers next to San Jose City Hall is projected to break ground in Summer 2017.

This, in my opinion, is a perfect location as that BART station will be located right there and it's next to city hall.

yay! I remember seeing some signs for this when I was walking through the area a couple months ago. nice to see something finally going into this vital area between the train station and downtown. sure wish that freeway wasn't smack dab in the middle of everything, or this would have been even better.

Downtown San Jose Student Housing Tower Gets Approved by Planning Director
The Graduate housing tower is now approved in Downtown San Jose. It is a 19-story tower with 260 units and over 1,000 beds. It is aimed for San Jose State University students as it's just 1 block away from campus. Rents are $1,000/month for a room, which should be cheap considering there is an estimated 4 beds per room unit.

Projected ground breaking is this 2017 Summer, with a 32-35 month construction phase.

This photo posted above neatly tells you why there aren't more real highrises in San Jose:



Look at that plane which appears to be landing at the San Jose airport. SF's Salesforce Tower may reach higher than that plane is.

Looks like a university for toddlers or something. Hopefully they get rid of the highlighter yellow accents at least.

SoFA = South of First Area

The area is generally filled with arts and entertainment venues such as the California Theater and the park where Christmas in the Park is generally at.

The school doesn't own the building but it is being built to help students with cheaper living costs.

The blue and yellow are the school colors btw

This screenshot of my drone video should show a better reason why there's no tall buildings in San Jose. It is VERY close to the airport.

New building that could be approved on Wednesday for downtown Oakland

It's not out of the woods yet, it's only been approved by the Planning Commission, the City Council still has to approve it and gets the final say.

I hope that Oakland residential tower breaks ground soon. Oakland hasn't had any development in awhile other than Brooklyn Basin
