The windows at The Works burger place on Doyle Street were papered over when I walked by yesterday. It had closed and then reopened. Maybe they called it quits once and for all. I have to think that locally owned places with cheaper and better food will always win out over franchises.

Speaking of franchises, the Nestle Toll House cafe opened at Spring Garden and Queen. It looks nice and this is a great location.

Must have been management, as I thought the food was really good there! Too bad.

The new Freshii restaurant at Main & Botsford (across from city hall) in Moncton opens on February 24th.

in the T&T article about this today, they also mentioned a Halifax franchise was opening later this year too. I don't know if you guys had previously been aware of this or not. I have no idea where this is going, but Freshii seems to prefer downtown locations.......

I never ate at Hart and Thistle so I can't personally comment on its quality (although I heard only fair to poor reviews from others) but I think it was extremely ill conceived from the start. The space, a bright, airy award-winning (?) addition to the Historic Properties was formerly occupied by a sort of upscale (quite pricey) market-style food court with a few options. Then, with Hart and Thistle, a stone wall was built to separate the nice, bright airy addition from the rest of the mall, and its immediate neighbours (now TIBS and Subway). That was the worst idea ever. The wall is extremely cold and uninviting and I would guess that hundreds of people walk past it every day and would never venture to the other side.

Red Fox pub has closed.

As has Estia on SGR. A shame, it was a great greek restaurant, ran by a very nice couple, but apparently this winter was too much to bear.

Man Woody's didn't last very long. Perhaps the location is to blame? Or is the food just not that good?

the food paled in comparison to Boneheads, I'd rather cross the bridge for good BBQ

Agreed. Went a couple of times but the food quality was mediocre. The Woody's in Bedford South is much better, actually.

Also, that section of Dartmouth Crossing has lots of restaurant competition, so if the food is not good at one place you can just walk to another location for something better.

I'm not surprised at all by Woody's closing. I was in once and the food was crap. It might have a chance of surviving in smaller locales where there isn't many other options but being surrounded by all types of restaurants it was doomed from the start.

If you want the polar opposite of Woodys I highly suggest trying Sushi Nami Royale a few doors down. It is extremely popular, has fresh food prepared in view, great service, and bomb mini-kamikazee rolls.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Crombie is putting a Thai Express in the Scotia Square food court. As far as food court food is concerned, I actually like Thai Express and it's a bit different than what's currently being offered.
